That's a brilliant piece of writing Doug. I've never seen that kind of honesty and meticulous scrutiny from a Barnsley Chronicle journalist before and I applaud this piece so much. I fundamentally disagree with some of your conclusions, but that's a good thing, we've all got our own opinions, and I appreciate that you've provided evidence for every opinion you've expressed. I wouldn't mind the opportunity to change your mind on a couple of things, but I think that's a fantastic opinion piece. Well done.

    How times change.

Keith Lodge never put anything negative on his back page of the Chron.

Pre Internet days. I reckon he never wanted to risk losing out on any scoops.

I think Doug has placed more blame on the manager than the situation he has had to deal with.

I think it’s a well balanced piece and accurately sums up the current position.

If the rumour that DT was brought in but can’t get a work permit is true it does shine a light on the amateurish administration that is BFC. This coming from a club which managed to get thrown out of the FA Cup.

Interesting read. Very accurate. Pretty much everything in that article has been discussed at length on this forum. I wonder if he has used this place as research?

Is it though? I imagine that if you hire a manager who has been an international manager for a number of years and who has managed in the top leagues in Austria and Belgium, you'd expect him to be deemed a professional and be able to get a work permit? Just my opinion obviously, but I'd expect a player who had been at those levels to have no issue getting clearance.

I think the point is, you wouldn't expect a professional outfit to expect or assume anything. You'd expect them to do their research and check first.

With five days left of the regular season, to sack a manager and then realise there are issues getting a work permit for the replacement smacks of utter incompetence.

Biggest game of the year and the replacement can’t mange the team. Not the best planning by anyone’s measure.

Don’t think I made my point clearly there. I’m assuming he absolutely would get a work permit based on my previous post. The fact that some websites think it’s in doubt are possibly just generating click bait.
Truth is another member of the BBS has put his neck on the line saying that Thalhammer will be our next manager. Looking at his career I don’t see a work permit stopping him.
He might not be in charge for Saturday but I think if he is indeed the man we are going for, he’ll be here for preseason.

But the person who claimed to be itk, has also claimed the appointment is delayed due to paperwork issues.
I'm still not convinced (hoping) that this isn't some elaborate betting scam.

I thought European manager appointments post Brexit were rules based and therefore there shouldn't be any need for assumptions, nor imagination?

I guess the criteria may have changed but when we appointed Asbaghi it was that you had to have either managed for any 36 months of the last 60 in one of the Fifa Top 50 leagues or have managed for 24 consecutive months in one of the Fifa Top 50 leagues*. Even by a quick tot up in my head I can see that Thalhammer doesn't qualify as he has only done 32 months in total and maximum 14 consecutively.

It's not totally dead in the water at that stage as a club can appeal (with cost) to what's called 'The Exceptions Panel'. No idea exactly who they are or how regularly they meet but they are a panel of lawyers and professionals in the football industry that need to be persuaded that the candidate is “of the highest calibre and able to contribute significantly to the development of the game at the top level in England”, according to their rules.

(* - Additionally he has to have a UEFA Pro Licence, be coming to a club without a manager and have clear responsibility for the first team).
