What an absolute sell out to the fans. 100% the premier league would do the same if they thought they could get away with it somehow
no different to the NFL playing games over here. Not defending it per se but teams have fans all over the world these days more than ever so it does make sense from a fan perspective not purely financial.
It is different because the NFL is purely a business franchise where the franchise owners can move the team anywhere it likes. I accept you're not defending it though.
Not a NFL fan but a quick Google shows they only play 17 games in a regular season with a player only completing 18 minutes a game on average. Which I think is a game a week. Appreciate the impact(literally & metaphorically) on a player is probably greater than a footballer but does suggest the effect is less on them physically over a season than a footballer with 2 games a week. Like I say not a NFL fan so above could be nonsense. Be interesting to see if they factor recovery time into season for jet lag etc.
You're right but there are fans and there are fans. I don't consider the fans from the other side of the world who discovered Real Madrid on ESPN to have an equal claim to being able to watch the club live as the fans who grew up with a real connection to the club living in the city.
Sorry but that makes no sense. Those world-wide fans are TV fans sat on the sofa. If they want to see their team live, then surely they should travel not the clubs, certainly not to the detriment of the real match attending fans in the clubs' home towns.
I’d imagine the fans will put a stop to this fairly quickly. Although, it would be a massive kick in the teeth, but quite hilarious for La Liga when 300 people turn out in Miami for Mallorca vs Celta Vigo.
The bigger clubs maybe, but isn't that why they have pre-season fixtures over there? Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool are having a mini tournament in the States in the summer. I haven't read into this fully, but they were talking about having an extra round of fixtures over there. What appetite would there be for say, Osasuna vs Cadiz in Nashville?
As disgraceful as this is, yet again where are FIFA? Why aren’t they stepping in and just stopping this madness?
Tebas is one of the biggest cry babies in football, constantly complaining about other clubs, the Premier league, self centred greedy ******** he'd sell his own family
But in the NFL it's for most sides 8 home games in a 3 month season. It's harsher taking NFL games abroad than it is taking one game out of 19 home games over a 10 month season abroad.
Football authorities “you can’t guarantee you will play home games for the next 10 years at your current ground? Sorry not acceptable no acceptance to the league for you” also football authorities “you want to play some of your home games thousands of miles away from home? Fine go ahead - hope you share the £ with us”
The sooner the greed clubs bugger off the better, form a world league if they want . Sick of the money grabbing b'stds lording it over the rest. It's the fans I feel sorry for. The fa cup debacle with no replays from round one is another pander to em.
The difference in travel distance between some of the NFL teams isn't much less than the travel distance for an NFL away game in the UK - certainly travel times are similar.
Abslolutely outrageos idea from a fans point of view - you expect to play your home games at home - how does it work if you play some of them in New York.
