Regarding McDonalds could it be that they’re coming out of the one on old mill lane allowing for the road to be widened and moving across the road, just a thought also this morning I was in town and there were a few guys in suits looking around the unit next door to the fragrance shop.
I doubt it. As I mentioned before, the rise in online orders means they can’t get food out quickly enough. A lot of restaurants now have delivery kitchens where they make the same food, but on a random industrial estate (or similar) just to fulfil online orders. I think this is essentially similar to one of those, but with a customer facing area to allow take out. It’ll alleviate the pressure on the Old Mill Lane drive thru. They’ve also probably been offered a really good deal to take the unit.
From what I’ve heard the building is in a bit of a state - especially upstairs. It’s a shame to see such a prominent building empty, and I do hope someone takes it on soon. I wouldn’t mind a Tesco Express or something in there.
Is it actually one building? On Google maps from above it looks like a mismatch of random roofs which sort of gives the appearance of a few different buildings with walls taken out for access between them all
On the left towards the botton of Harborough Hills is a Memorial to a young woman who lost her life tragically some years ago. Every time I drive past I notice there are fresh flowers on the Memorial. Is she buried there and will there be a relocation due to the road works?
The memorial is being relocated. It was mentioned in the plans and in the Chroncile articles about the scheme.
It was extended at one point during the time M&S had it. The bit to the left of the main entrance (the side doors with external steps on Cheapside) was added at a later stage. There would’ve been an older building there previously.
With regards fast food etc I'm really suprised the government has cracked down on smoking so much which is fair enough as its bad for you. But continues to do little about McDonald's and all the other fast foods and ***** sold in shops. Which obesity and obesity related illnesses cost the nhs billions each year.
If they held both sets of lights on Old Mill Lane and behind B&M on red for 30 seconds, it would allow more cars to get out of Asda. As it stands, they just alternate. They should also add a box junction at Asda’s exit to stop the traffic waiting on Old Mill Lane blocking the exit for those wanting to cross over to go up Harborough Hill.
Personally I think it would make a good base for a new Primark, I’ve seen them in a few building of this type around the country and I’m pretty sure a larger primark would be just as successful as I can’t see any drop in demand anytime soon, the one in the Alhambra is a bit naff compared to other larger outlets they have
If people actually exited from the lower exit when they wanted to turn left out of Asda it would help as well, I’ve never understood why people sit and queue at the top to then turn left instead of just exiting at the lower exit designed for that exact reason
I think it's probably because it's such a badly laid out carpark that a lot of people don't even know that exit exists or how to get to it with it being hidden away behind the petrol station.
