o/t there's an accident waiting to happen at the Penny Pie gyratory - the timings are extremely 'tight' especially for drivers coming from Broadway.
Found this about the memorial and the relocation of it The memorial was erected the year after Kaye’s death and her sister, 50-year-old Jayne Pepper, of Stairfoot, said the planning process has been ‘handled incredibly’ so far. Jayne, who saw the collision which ended her sister’s life, told the Chronicle: “We’re happy for the plans to go ahead as long as the memorial is still there and we have something to go to. “Even though it’s going to be relocated we’re happy with it. “We go to the memorial at Christmas and we head there quite a bit because it does get quite grubby being at the roadside. “It’s a comfort that we can keep her memory going on. “It feels like yesterday it happened and even though it was traumatic for me to witness I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way than me being with her so she wasn’t alone. “We won’t forget her - we never have and we never will.”
Is the old M&S unit any bigger than the one Primark is currently in though? Struggling to find any details on the sqft of each, but I can’t imagine there’s much in it. Without Primark, footfall in the Alhambra would drop off a cliff so I’d imagine the council would bend over backwards to keep them in there. I believe the plan is to turn the whole of the first floor into medical use so would assume the stores upstairs will need to relocate downstairs or elsewhere. Perhaps the old M&S would work for Superdrug if the grand plan is still to demolish the old BHS where they are now? The problem there is that the council don’t own the M&S building so wouldn’t be able to offer an incentive to get them in.
The young girl ( Kaye Pepper) was coming out of Bentleys ( Antonios) nightclub about 1996 when she was struck by a car. On the anniversary of her passing her family put a very poignant tribute to her in the Barnsley Chronicle . The memorial went up a year after she died. A terrible tragedy for any family to cope with
id assume you could make it over 2 floors but I don’t know for sure. Superdrug last I heard do want a new unit but there’s not many available of the size they’re in right now and wouldn’t be a blow to the town centre if they were to leave so hopefully something van be found or sorted for them is there any timsckae for works to start on the Alhambra do you know? Obviously this isn’t going to happen it’s purely what I’d like to see but I’d live to see the retrodome move into the battle bar unit would be a fantastic location right in the town centre and also a bar which they currently have as well
I think Argos are convinced it's Barnsley as well seeing as it says welcome to Barnsley over the door at Cortonwood. Goldthorpe has a Rotherham post code as well but it's still Barnsley.
Pretty sure there’s only three that don’t. Morrisons = Brampton B&Q = Dearne Valley McDonald’s = Rotherham The rest all seem to use Barnsley Cortonwood.
I can be a right b*****d getting out if you want to go to Monk Bretton. Better to come out at the top one.
I'm surprised Poundland haven't combined their two small stores into one larger one in the m&s building. Seems daft having two small ones. But having said that isn't there an upstairs to the bigger Poundland that they don't even bother to use? I'm sure when I was a kid that shop was two floors and accessible from wellington street as well.
There was definitely an upstairs when it was “What Everyone Wants” in the 90’s. Seemingly named on the assumption everyone wanted a load of old tat!
