Poor coach who dropped lucky with a good squad in a poor league. When tested against decent teams failed miserably.
Don’t understand this. There isn’t some bizarre barrier that stops good managers achieving at a certain level. I get that quality of players can be lacking, but surely there’s no difference in tactics?
Not for me. Memories were unreal and they’ll get ruined. He had a superb XI the season he had us and as soon as he was working with players out of their depth in the Champ, he also looked poor and didn’t learn tactically. I’m always up for a return of a previous manager but this would be more Wilson than owt else. Big Val and Hecky would be a different story as would Struber if we ever managed to get him back. I’d also rather have Lee Johnson than Stendel.
I know there seems to be quite a retrospective view when it comes to appointments from many fans. However I feel we should always be progressive and look forwards. I wouldn't expect any past successes to be repeated automatically as things move on. I feel we should look for the next success and not hang on to the past. So for me it's not about Stengel, it's more about building and developing a progressive approach to our development as a club. Any re-hiring should be only on todays and future merits and not based only on the past.
Don`t think it will be DS but I wonder how his reappointment would go down with those at the club - I know the top men aren`t here anymore but a lot of the other staff are. Would certainly get the fans behind the club - at least initially.
I'd have him back for sure. Was great for us in League 1 - the only automatic promotion I can really remember! Obviously it went horribly in the Championship, but the board f*** up that summer was outrageous. We sold Moore and the whole back 5, plus Jackson, and replaced them with 20 year olds. Truly unacceptably bad. Joint top with the Schopp/ change in style f*** up a couple of years later.
