You can see they’re trying to be more positive and absolutely no lack of graft, but the cohesion and muscle memory clearly just isn’t there. That’s no surprise given how they’ve been told to play for so long. I blame Collins fairly and squarely for where we are. If we get the result today and make a game of things in the playoffs I’ll be happy enough. But there’s no way this is the 3rd best team in the league. Still all in our hands though. Huge 45 coming up.
We've been OK. Williams 3 crucial blocks , Macatee all over the place. Connell playing some nice passes and us jumping for headers off their corners. To me an improvement, we are more attacking.More of the same next half, we need another goal!
Thing is when the opposition sit deep and we press it gives midfield little time to pull it down and do a meaningful pass.A slightly lower press to try and encourage them out a little might be more effective. We all know Cole needs the ball directly to him on the turn at speed to be successful.
Liability really, but that's what you get from someone signed just above semi pro. Too many rash moments.
Does the rest of the team have something against Cad’s - O’Keeffe had enough ball to win three games and Cad’s feeds on scraps.
Only worry for me is corners & set pieces. We still look vulnerable. A bit more composure from Cole & we'd have been 2-0 up.
Don’t agree with that. We haven’t played that well I’ll agree, but the play is a lot less turgid, disco is screaming to the back line to get higher as soon as the ball goes forward and we are looking to get it forward a lot quicker, with a controlled press a lot of the time too. We have lost the ball quite a bit - but in looking to be positive rather than possession for possession’s sake. Cole is a shadow of his early season form. O’Keeffe is really frustrating as he has to cut back every time he gets the ball. Just for once go on the outside or get a ball in! Overall it hasn’t been brilliant - but a clear change in what we’ve seen in recent weeks. More on the front foot. The longer it stays 1-0 the more nervy they (and we) will get. An early goal second half and I think we’ll run out winning by a few. Let’s see.
It’s utterly amazing, how we supposedly play with 3 across the middle of midfield, and have a huge open space with zero Barnsley players occupying it whenever the back 3 have the ball. Were also set up so that Cadden and O’Keefe are our out balls, yet they are also never available. Add that to a complete lack of movement, aside from Macatee. I feel sorry for our back 3. I’d hate to have to pump it long and look like a mug each time.
It was never gonna be drastic changes from Devaney but we are playing 30 yards further up the pitch and not passing about at the back as much even though we do look understandably nervy. It's all about the result today.
