Watch their man and watch our defenders . We start off with two men on him and it ends with a free header https://x.com/barnsleysportx/status/1784252939206275372?s=46 It’s actually scary how bad that defending is.
Poor from Roberts and he’s been off form for a while. Having said that though he’s still pulling off brilliant saves while, during the same match, letting in relatively easy ones. That’s how it is with keepers though
Because earl is terrible. Since he came in our form has gone and he costs a goal every couple of weeks
Whilst I dont like pointing fingers at specific players, I fear I'm in agreement with you. His first few games he was flawless almost. Since him giving away the Bolton penalty, I think it was 6 big mistakes in the next 7 games what lead to goal, directly from him. Whether that's because he thinks a ball has gone out of play and stops concentrating and then opposition somehow score, or giving a way a pen, or losing the ball in a dangerous position. But I still think there's certainly a player in there and hopefully next season we get a much more consistent version of Earl.
Yes, I should be more specific, my point is even when he doesn't have a shocking game, even when he has a decent game, there seems to be a lapse in concentration or something where he makes a huge error and we concede from it. I personally think, like a lot of the team, that late Bolton goal knocked stuffing out of us. I believe its twice now hes stopped jockeying or whatever its called because he thought ball had gone out of play. There's also times when he doesn't run for it for the same reason, and for me there's no excuse for that bud.
Earl doesn't challenge the first ball and De Givigney (as usual) loses his man totally leaving the forward with loads of room to finish unchallenged. I'm with Cloughie - there's far too much emphasis on coaching for me when you have players that simply won't or can't make basic defensive challenges.
Not really any wonder that fleetwood ended up being relegated with him being a major part of that team.
Josh Earl another example of a player that’s gone downhill fast. I’ve got absolutely no doubt he’s a good player. First few games he looked different class. The confidence has been sucked out of them.
Think he might get back to his best with Pines and a (hopefully) new defender alongside him next season. Doesn’t help playing alongside MDG who has no pace, no physical presence and is prone to errors himself.
I agree. Looks a full back to me playing out of position, no matter what he says. Gets forward brilliantly and good on the ball but **** me, when he’s facing his own goal or under pressure, he’s shocking. It can’t get much worse having McCart in there and that’s what I’d do Friday. Bench Earl and start with McCart.
When we first signed Earl for a supposed 50k I thought he can’t be that good as a club with more resources like Bolton or even probably Wigan would’ve snapped him up but after three games I thought we had got an absolute bargain. I think teams got wise to him & started pressing him. Lincoln were the first to really do it & since then he’s not been able to start attacks for us like he did in his first few games.
I agree that he looked very classy at first and a very good signing. However, what I initially took for coolness and unflappability, I now regard as a combination of painful slowness and an overestimation by him of his own ability.
I still think it, even more now to this day, that we (or rather they, the owners!) f*kd up by allowing Jimmy to leave. Two days before the start of the season, and to a club in Non league football as well!. But however once again (exactly like he did this time last year), I will also say that Devante should be ashamed of himself, for throwing the towel in.
