Haha, I was keeping an eye on this one! Surprised that it wasn't more like this from the beginning, to be honest. You'd be cross if you were a Sutton fan, but the table is calculated over a whole season after all.
No, Peterboro sent Peterboro down by conceding a late goal against Crystal Palace. It was in their own hands. Luke Steele had the ball it was up to Huddersfield to come and get it
Never celebrated another team's goal as much as I did that one. Good job Peterborough didn't get one more!
As an aside, this came up on my feed after I searched for that Huddersfield game. That team really was something with hindsight, but it's striking just how much worse we look at the moment, given that we're pretty much in the same position.
I was shouting my head off thinking what if Peterborough score again. Another bonkers end to a season. That last 10 minutes or so were unbelievable. Folk thinking others were lying as the scores came through.
Similar happened in a World Cup game many years ago. From a fading memory East Germany might have been one of the teams but I can’t remember the other but a 0-0 draw put both sides through and lo and behold game ended 0-0. Both keepers had nothing to do.
That's right, I remember reading about it and that match is why FIFA changed the rules so the final group stage matches now kick off at the same time. Just found this https://www.businesstoday.in/latest...e-being-played-at-same-time-354598-2022-11-29
I did a bit of digging and the game was in 1982. West Germany 1 Austria 0 meaning both went through. West Germany scored in 10 minutes then the game just died as both countries happy to play out time.
think it involved Austria. Little did I know then my team would waste a decade obsessed with the footballing power house that is Austria.
Is this an ironic post or do you not recall Huddersfield away under flicker? At least all the players were stood up! In that game the ball was at Steele’s feet and a few players were sat down as I recall. Peterborough still hate us for it - but bizarrely not Huddersfield. Not really sure why. Presumably as it was us that finished immediately above them, with them going down with a record points total after having an incredible run of form at the back end of the season beaten only by ours.
