I know i shouldn't but I've seen 1 or 2 children (i assume) on social media stating as facts that we're lucky to be in the playoffs.Things like if Blackpool had won or Lincoln had won etc.The bottom line is and are factual we drew Lincoln lost and Blackpool lost.Over a 46 game season a team ends up where they deserve. We got the points needed and the others didn't.
Both clearly are true. We are in the play offs because we got the required number of points, but that number of points was determined by the performances of other teams around us
If I’d been a better footballer I wouldn’t be on here now. This thread had the potential to be comedy gold
From at least 5 games out we've had a known equation of points needed from the remaining games that would guarantee us a play-off spot with the destiny solely in our own hands. The equation moved as each gameweek passed but the one element of consistency throughout is that, no matter where you measure it from, we failed to achieve the required number of points to not have to rely on other teams' failures. It wasn't luck, as you point out, but there has been a repeatable failure towards the end of the season for this team to do the job required of it to control its own destiny.
We are there on merit, although i would have liked to have done it the Donny way, being rubbish in the season & winning 10 on the bounce to give us the momentum going into the play offs.
You could also make a case and say we were 14pts clear of 7th at one stage and look good for the top 2, that's the reality of our form, but It's whoever turns up over the 2 legs, play like we've played over the last 6 weeks and we'll get taken apart, play like we played for 60/70 mins or so at Portsmouth and we've a chance. One thing is for sure we'll need to take our chances
"If the results had been different then the table would be different." No **** Sherlock, did you go to detective school to come up with that gem of wisdom?
