Need 2 keepers to start with as one is a loan and other out of contract. Roberts Killip Cundy Marsh Williams Kane Wolfe Cadden Cole Roberts McCart McAtee all won't be here. Contracted players remaining Pines MDG Earl Lopata Mccarthy Shepherd Lofthouse Cotter O'Keefe Connell Phillips Russell Benson Styles Grant (option to make permanent) Cosgrove Watters Jalo Shaw Dallas
The article as says: "This latest extension also includes the option of a further year for the young striker"
We've even better to come back from loan yet.. the scattergun approach is coming home to roost.. we have actually too many players on the books at present at the club.. and those that are still under contract won't be going anywhere because no one else would take em..
I think we need to do a lot to be competitive next season. Im not confident we have what it takes to manage this. I believe we need a clear plan, my top 3 priorities are:- 1. Head Coach. We simply cannot get this wrong. We have had too many failures and now we need low risk high value. 2. A leader on the pitch. Call it a ‘old head’ but someone who can support, rally, motivate and not let refs get away with poor decisions. Also can play. 3. A backbone of a team. 4 first name on the team sheet players in each department. Goalie, defender, midfield and striker. Build the team on this but get em in early.
Christ….20 players contracted and at least half a dozen aren’t even up to L1 standard. Expectations for next season massively lowered.
But I thought everyone said we had the players to "walk into any other side in the division" and it was the manager holding us back. That's what we've been told for the past 3 months.
We need a Ray McHale type leader in the middle tear up the spreadsheet approach signing young turds hoping to polish them into diamonds that policy has died a death get a couple of old heads to play with the obviously good crop of youngsters like James Chapman Jalo and yonganathan
Cole,Cadden,Williams and Kane look like they'll be gone. Roberts, McAtee and McArt will return to their clubs. Which means a total rebuild yet again before the season starts. I posted about this a few weeks ago and to be honest got some stick from certain BBS members who assured me I talk crap because we'll obviously be bringing in replacements. The basis of my post was we've too many "punts" and loaned out players who are on the payroll which needs to stop....Having read all the above posts I now think the most important new signing is the Manager (NOT Coach).. We need to stop allowing the spreadsheet and data driven information to pick the tactics and the team and get a good knowledgeable leader who will build from the bottom up. we may be mid table for a season or two but at least we'd have a gaffer who is invested in the individuals he chooses as apposed to working with what your given. I still believe that Mr Duff was that person but the realisation that "they" would pick the team and tactics and that everyone would be for sale sent him out the door. Yes I'll now put my tin hat on but until we're run as a football club with human passion and commitment and not as a version of a Playstation game what we have now will continue..
Unfortunately that's the least of the dofs problem anyway at least we know the blokes switched on, no **** ups with getting the new head coach in oh hand on a minute.
Clearly need at least 1 decent new keeper. If Killip is cheap he could be ok to resign as back up A lot depends on the head coach though. I think under a decent coach like Duff Mael Earl Pines and Lopata/Shepherd may make a defence yet. Look at how Mads and Kitching improved With Phillips and Connell(if we keep them) we have the basis of a midfield but need a better replacement for Kane and need 2 Strikers Problem is if we need to sell I can only see Connell and Phillips being worth anything unless someone wants to take a punt on Jalo.
We do have good players Cole great before Jan then look like he has lip out because he wasn't allowed to go. Kane good player **** attitude Williams and cadden 2 of the best wing backs in the league last season Connell good player Phillips Macatee I do believe those players are more than good enough to play in any league one side this season. I know you liked Collins and thought he was doing a great job but for me his football was awful to watch and the results were mostly better than the performances. Imagine if Cosgroves assault on the keeper for a goal hadn't been allowed it would have been Lincoln v bolton last night.
Go on I will give a name. Ryan Johnson who plays CB for Wimbledon. https://www.afcwimbledon.co.uk/news/2023/june/signing-six-experienced-centre-back-joins/ https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=73680 https://www.afcwimbledon.co.uk/teams/first-team/defender/ryan-johnson/ Despite finishing mid table the only 3 teams with a better defence for not letting in goals are the 3 clubs automatically promoted. He signed a two year contract so shouldn't cost much with a year left. He is 27 so still young whilst also having plenty of seasons under his belt.
As well as those due to leave I can see the club trying to move on Mccarthy Benson Styles and hopefully Watters Dallas and Shaw. Incomings will almost certainly be loans and fee transfers.
At least 2 players with a known pedigree at this level or higher, rather than 7 players picked from obscurity and sent out on loan or worse still playing the first team even though they are not good enough.
What has happened to him? We have him and another few young keepers too still contracted. https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2... is pleased, progressed through the age groups.
Still think MDG is one for the future, he’s not ready to lead a defence and needs experience beside him. Same goes for Earl.
