Watched Chaplin etc and they have done so well. Feel so chuffed for them but so jealous too. Must be nice to support a well run, genuinely decent club.
Sickening seeing the mess we are in when we were in Championship play offs a few years ago. Congrats Ipswich, will be tough but will be hoping they give it a good go.
13 months ago we were chasing them with a chance of second. They mullered us at Oakwell and the rest is history. Like recent battles for us against Brentford and Luton, the gulf is now 2 divisions and light years. Even other recent races against the likes of Swansea, Wendies, Derby, Blunts and Sunderland. One division difference but a gulf in quality. What might have been, eh? As we keep being told, League One is a horrible League to get stuck in.
I can see us being stuck here for a while now. Half of squad is going to go, the other half aren’t good enough. I do quite like League One though, plenty of good away days and its nice to win more often. Obviously i do want us to play in a higher league though.
Yes, well done Ipswich. Always had a soft spot for them ever since going to watch them regularly in 1974/5 when I had a year at Essex Uni.
Been lucky with the manager. Ipswich have been a basket case for years . They have been mid table L1 since 2019 until last season
Agree with you on that , don't mind league 1 either tbh as you say some good away days, obviously don't want to be there forever though
Ipswich have a massive advantage over us though, by virtue of their very large support base. They are the only league club in Suffolk and draw fans from a wide radius. Crowds of 25000+ in League One enabled them to attract players we could never attract, because they have far more money coming in and can pay far higher wages. I think Luton's achievement in reaching the Premier League was far more admirable.
I agree. I have a nephew who was born and lives in Colchester, and he is now a massive fan. He wasn't a few years ago though. He was always moaning about them and only attended the odd match. If they drop back down the leagues, I expect he'll be back to moaning about them and attending only the odd match.
Don’t disagree but worth noting that eight of the starting eleven today played for them in league one last season, so they haven’t spent massively on the current squad
When I was at Essex Uni, me and a Sunderland supporting mate had a student season ticket at Colchester Utd, the season they were battling with Darlington to avoid dropping out of the league. Had some great nights at Layer Road. The year I graduated and left town was the year they succumbed but we agreed that when they come back up, we'd go back for the promotion winning game. And we did.
Nope. I'd say they have a real crest of the wave feeling behind them this season after they smashed League One. Good players full of confidence can take you a long way. I did keep reading that if they hadn't gone up last season they'd have been absolutely stuffed financially. Always had a soft spot for them since I used to go and watch them at Uni so I'm pleased for them.
