Imagine saying 'without the goals' about a striker. Was only 2 weeks ago the exact same bizarre quote got said about Haaland.
Partly but if Cole had the ability to rough up a defence like Norwood he'd be worth a fortune. He just doesn't though. Granted, if he did he wouldn't be with us. But there is something lacking in his game.
Yep, him. I'm not fixated on him not being here and the whys or why not because nobody knows. But if you could choose between the two of them in their prime I'd pick Norwood every time.
To be honest I think his best 60 minutes in a barnsley shirt was at Wembley. Duff was a head coach who I rated highly and on many occasions Norwood wouldn't start before someone as poor as tedic he's now helped oldham finish 10th in the national league in my opinion he's abit over rated by our fans. You say if Cole could rough up defenders like Norwood he would play at a high level and demand a big fee. But why has Norwood never done either in his career?
I genuinely don't know. Maybe he lacked a bit of pace. There's no doubt he knows where the net is at any level he's played at.
To be fair his best spells were with tranmere in the national league and league 2. He did okay with Ipswich and us in league one but never prolific.
Oh I dunno, throughout Norwoods carrer he's scored a goal every 191 minutes he's played in league 1 as opposed to one every 236 for Cole. This season is Coles most prolific by far and he's racked up one every 200, in 2020 Norwood scored one every 174 in 2021 it was also one in 174 and in 2022 it was one in 177. For us it was one every 212 minutes.
That's because Norwood, whilst clearly limited to a level ability wise, has always given everything on a football field and worked his socks off. The point here I think, is that if Cole has Norwood's work ethic on the field, he would have played a lot higher up and had more success, because he's a better finisher than Norwood, has more pace and is physically stronger. The fact that he doesn't seem to want to do this, limits his level.
I'd much rather be Bobby Hassell looking back on my career knowing that my effort meant I managed to play at the highest level I possibly could for my ability than I would be Jacob Mellis remembering that I had a chance to play for Chelsea but pissed it up the wall
Because he's no pace....but a lot of old school buggerability in his game....if Cole had some of that he'd have been bought already.
That stat is ******** as Cole has over twice the amount of league one appearances on his c.v than Norwood does. Jalo has a better mpg ratio than I think all of our strikers this season. Does that mean I want him starting every week no obviously not.
Not sure Cole is physically stronger than Norwood but I agree with the others I think that's a part of coles game that's poor. I don't think we will see Cole in a barnsley shirt again he most likely has a move sorted and his form has dipped since January probably due to this, same with kane. I don't think scoring goals has been our problem this season I think it's been at the other end the defence is embarrassing.
We need to get Jalo starting next season. He's more physical than Cole already & has some pace & an eye for goal. We can't afford not to, as our other striking options are limited. At the moment next season, we have him, Cosgrove, Watters & Marsh, as things stand.
Connell is a class player. A combination of injuries & a playing style that really does not suit him has made him less effective this season. We need the right coach & playing style to make him our lynch pin next season. The squad is looking a bit threadbare TBH. massive rebuild needed. Hope Pines with a preseason can finally show us what we saw briefly before his injury.
Agree. And I think a lot of the reason Cole's form dropped was due to a lack of other options so the bloke had to play almost every minute of every game.
Possibly, I can't help but think him and kane could already more or less know where there off. Cole seems to not commit himself as much maybe not wanting injury but that's just my opinion. In hindsight the club should have sold him in Jan but if they had the ones now slagging Cole of would have been on at the club so they really can't win sometimes.
Luca is class and hopefully he’ll be more of a regular next season meaning he won’t have had as many injuries and illnesses as this one. Be captain I reckon.
