Wonder When we will see this and who will be responsible given we don't have a head coach. Maybe the DOAF (Director Of Analytical Football) will make the decision? If we handle this window like the last where we made illogical signings (eg Watters, Dallas) when ones seemingly obvious (eg Isted) were ignored. We will also lose the backbone of the team through transfers and the return of loanees. It's a shame that our rebuild is an annual event now, even with the manager. Any progressive football club looks for continuity and consistency - attributes we seem to have no value for.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’d understood that an offer had been made to Isted who was available on a free, but following Duff’s departure he decided to join Charlton instead.
Can’t see there being too many surprises in the list. Don’t expect any of the out of contract players to extend, apart from Cadden maybe. Marsh is an interesting one because I’d probably say no to offering him a deal but given the sheer number of departures we will have, they might want to extend to have one less player to replace.
Part of the reason for an annual rebuild is that we identify some good players that other clubs want to buy. Some develop quickly and others take time, like Andersen. Re the retained list, I would imagine it will be out quickly when the season ends and we know for certain which league we’ll be planning for. I’ll look forward to seeing it. Hopefully it will be ruthless and leave room for some real improvements.
They waited very late in the day to make any contact for an offer to Isted and when they did it was a ridiculous offer that was less than a league 2 keeper would be. If I remember correctly it was around the time Duff's move was practically confirmed and he'd already had a better offer with Charlton earlier in the window so rest is history.
I agreed. Think he’s been very poor this season. Awful defensively and rarely gets his cross past the first man.
Cadden for me dropped his performance levels as soon as Dodgson was recalled, he had a decent season last year and had larkeche to call upon when legs got tired. Part of me thinks it's because he's had no cover so can't really run full pelt for 90+ mins 2 games a week & part of me thinks it's because there's no competition for his shirt realising he's basically undroppable so he became complacent.
Agree with that. To be honest the only reason I see him as the only possible one to re-sign is because he won’t have many suitors.
Marsh needs to go, unfortunately he his not going to make it at is local club and needs for for sake of his career
I must admit I think he needs to have a good run of games at conference/low league 2 level to see where he’s at. Will possibly have to drop down to potentially work back up the football league.
I mean if Watters is the benchmark, it’s not looking good! Both probably wouldn’t be here next season if it were down to me. But then I see neither in training every day.
I agree about Marsh. Keeping him on would just be taking up a valuable striking place when we’ve already got Shaw and Dallas who need moving out. Plus there’s Watters we need to somehow offload. Still not getting the hype over Jalo yet either. I’d be looking to get him a loan to L2 or the National League where he could hopefully get a run of games. We need at least 2 new strikers for next season. Whether we get them and where they’re from is another matter….
Who was the last signing we made where the majority of fans felt it was a ‘sit up and listen’ signing. One where people felt impressed from the off?
This is correct. Both Isted and Thomas verbally agreed to sign new contracts then chose to go elsewhere when Duff walked.
