I would love to see some investors come in - not necessarily instead of but in addition to the board that helps break the current cycle. Right now we are hand to mouth. A club that appears to cling on to its existence through the selling of players and owner subsidies. The continuity is about survival. Would be great to be able to build and improve a squad year on year with retaining the core players. Would be good to see the infrastructure and ground developed. Maybe some innovation. Its hard to understand our plight as there is very little regular communication. A fans forum for regulars everytime there is a blip to respond to. I would be interested to know if the board are seeking investment and if they will be able to change our model of sustainability.
The hand to mouth existence is common for all clubs outside the premier league. We are not an exception but typical of a provincial club struggling to make the finances work. Exceptions are clubs like Ipswich who have had much larger financial support and better decision making. You could argue that some of the decision making at BFC has been poor but on the finances side we are a typical third tier club which has had a larger than average level of support from the directors.
But they aren't going to want talk about it if it puts them in a bad light are they. They're just going to want to move on and hope people forget all about.. The new CEO team's first job was to sack Collins. And then find a replacement. They will be judged on who comes through the door.. but ultimately by results on the field. .
Mladen's experience is not as a director of football but as Head of Analytics more latterly with 777 and prior to that at Leicester for 3 years and prior to that he had a year at Twenty3 sports again providing analytics and working with Huddersfield first team. This position as Director of Football is far wider than anything he has done before and I think to suggest he has bags of experience is stretching hi CV a little. Up until 2018 he was working as a research assistant at York neuroimaging centre. Make no doubt this is a massive step up for him. I hope he absolutely smashes the role and brings stability and great decision making he's no doubt intelligent bringing with him a PhD but experience wise a lot of this will be new.
Lincoln City have been doing this, bringing in investors on what seems to be a yearly basis, not sure what the long terms effects for that is but it is decreasing the shareholdings meaning the board could potentially eventually become very fractured if not fully aligned. On the flip side if one investor decides they have had enough the club should be more secure whereas if Neerav decided no more we could be in a world of trouble.
yes i agree, which is what i was saying. Also i would like us to go beyond that but cant see the cycle broken without additional investment + better decision making and governance
At Leicester he was head of recruitment and player identification including players from abroad according to his CV.
Local investors was, in some degree, the model that the John Dennis era followed. Local businessmen, none fabulously wealthy, but with enough money, business acumen and love for the Club to work together to push the Club forward. Not sure that model could work in the modern era much as I would love it to be the case.
There's a whole host of clubs nowadays using data to pick up good talent so it's not something that gives us an advantage anymore. Now add into the mix a set style so for example data brings up a really good winger who can play as part of a front 3, we won't be in for him because he doesn't fit our system, so said player ends up at Peterborough for example. We have to take the filters off that just fits a 352 and scour and bigger range, combine that with a couple of older heads and we might start getting back to something like.
Bet you love a night game so it's at a reasonable time for you. Heard a rumour you don't want us to reach the Premier League because of the TNT Sports half 12 Saturday slot
I can handle the 7:00 PST Saturday mornings, as I'm an early riser anyway, but the 4:15 wake-up for the 1st Leg was a bit much. Midday today is even sweeter. I'll worry about the Premier League when we've again claimed our rightful place in the Championship.
Feels very unlikely. First and foremost I just don’t think local investors with a love for BFC, have anything like the money needed to match the fans’ expectations. You might rustle up enough if you got a consortium, but that just brings a whole different set of problems: a bunch of people who don’t actually know how to run a football club, wanting a say in how to run the football club.
Thing is they have needed to put a more than average level of support to make up for conman and Lees **** ups the signings of oulare and iseka and the incompetent managers they appointed never gave us a chance of survival in the championship that season.
It’s not that tho for me. They are obviously struggling with things and need someone in to guide them or be chairman and help run the club. When you go through the internal staff at the top from owner to CEO and sporting director…..not one of them has real experience in football. It’s a very young intern of staff and it clearly shows in how inept they are. Experience is needed.
Don't kid yourself. Lots in the stand think they know about football but none of us have got a clue. I guarantee if you put footballing decisions to a fan vote we'd be in the conference in 3 years.
We need to go back old school and have an actual manager rather than a head coach. There's a real lack of football people at the club.
If anyone can read the BBS for more than 5 minutes and come to a different conclusion i’d say they were delusional at best! I include myself in this too. If nothing else as fans people get too emotional and make emotional decisions. There would have been people on here sacking collins after a 7-0 victory. We’d have a new manager every 2 weeks if it was up to fans.
