Trust me we won't miss any of the out of contract players in cole, Williams, cadden, kane. Not because some of them are not good players but because they simply haven't been putting the effort in. Look what grant did compared to kane in that match, wasn't even comparable.
I wouldn't be that upset to see him stay and he certainly has his qualities but we have options in that position so if we could get something for him and improve elsewhere that would be good imo.
It's a real tricky one, because I genuinely think the drop in form has been partly down to the coaching. Apart from probably McAtee, Phillips and now I would have to say Cosgrove (who had his best games after Collins was sacked), I can't think of a player who has finished stronger than they started. Under another coach would these players flourish again? Dunno. Personally I have no issue with pretty much any of our players leaving, apart from Luca, Phillips and Pines. Obviously that won't happen, but I wouldn't be particularly bothered. The defence is a serious problem though. That really needs to be priority one for Mladen this Summer. We need defenders and a coach that can defend.
Williams (Had a mixed season, probably best for him to move on) Cundy (Injury prone) Cadden (Personally i’d like us to keep him but he probably won’t stay) MDG (Struggled a lot) Kane (Won’t sign a new deal) Wolfe (Unlucky with injuries) Benson (Injury prone) Ackroyd (Won’t get a sniff) Cole (Deserves a last pay day somewhere else. Will struggle in league above) Watters (Disappeared off the planet) Marsh (Needs to start his career somewhere else) We won’t get much money in the summer so we will have to hope the club puts their hand in their pocket.
I’ve said it a few times on here but I can’t see any of the out of contract players staying. As the season has gone on I’ve been less arsed about any of them staying as well. However, I would like to see Williams stay and him play at right wing back again. Not sure any of our contracted players will have much attention from the division above.
I hope the four tool downers of Williams, Cole, Kane and Cadden we announce tomorrow they are going. No point dragging it out saying we've offered them new contracts on our retained list when...... 1) They won't sign them. 2) They don't deserve a new contract anyway.
Suspect that this might be an unusual opinion, but I'd keep any of the first team who want to stay and build around them. I think it's the depth that has harmed us this year. Not being able to give players like Cadden a break, or having fresh legs to come on up front, or giving the manager options in d efence, or maybe being able to bring a tricky midfielder out of our pocket for the right game - this is where I think we could have really improved.
I don’t know how accurate this is https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/barnsley-fc/vertragsende/verein/349/vertragsendeJahr/2024/plus/1#/ I’m a big Kane fan, but I don’t think he and Connell are best suited to play together as they are very similar. If Herbie was to move on I’d wish him well and hope for a dynamic midfielder in the Scowen mould to complement Connell.
It's no coincidence that we've looked miles better with the far more mobile Grant on the field. Herbie's had a great season but far too often we've broken out of defence and the the midfield has checked back, taking the sting out of our attack.
Difficult one If we are gunna keep him, we need to play him. Simple as that. Otherwise it's another wage were are spending for nowt. Is he good enough, I've no idea, not seen enough of him. But sentiment aside, he's either part of the 1st team squad next season or leaves IMO
Marsh has done nothing to convince me to offer a new deal. Cole going and need to move on Watters Shaw and Dallas who aren't good enough. We build around Cosgrove and Jalo and get a couple more strikers in.
He hasn't had much of a first team chance, 110 minutes over 11? sub appearances....some less than 5 minutes.
Yeah me too. Jordan has sacrificed a lot for the team. Played out of position he has really struggled when played in his correct position he is miles ahead of O’Keefe
