I think the league is going to be really interesting and quite competitive next year. Rotherham, Huddersfield, Birmingham, Stockport, Mansfield, Wrexham and Donny if they are promoted is a decent set of fixtures. There's still Blackpool, a couple of trips to London for Charlton and Orient, Bristol and Lincoln. Our pals at Wigan too. Some decent teams in that lot, just have to hope the football is watchable.
Charlton *should* be up there next year, i think Rotherham will struggle with how many players are leaving. Huddersfield, just all depends on what talent they keep. Birmingham youd expect them to challenge. But next season, looking at the teams, personally I think we should no doubt be challenging all the way through for top 2.
I'm not sure about that at the moment Frog, but a lot depends of course on what we do ourselves, this pre season!.
Yep. Saturday was my hangover from this season. Went into last night fairly confident we wouldn’t do much and despite being proven wrong (I thought we were exceptional at times), Bolton were the third best team in the league like Wednesday were last year and deserve Wembley at the very minimum. They have a manager who have improved their side every season over four years, something we can learn from. Some cracking away days, something the Champ don’t have and despite you wanting to play at the highest possible level, we need a massive rebuild.
Agree with all of that, except that we need a massive rebuild. The side that finished so strongly yesterday and Friday - most of them are likely to be with us next season, or improved upon. As others have said, Grant, Connell, Phillips, Cosgrove, Pines is a very good spine to work with. O'Keefe has been hit and miss but he's got a huge number of assists this season. Shepherd and Lopata will be back, both of whom looked more than capable of making the step up. Likewise Lofthouse, who's had rave reviews at Gateshead and MK Dons will also be back. Marsh and Jalo both have genuine pace, something which I felt we were lacking at times this season. Personally, I'd be looking to add an experienced centre half, a tough tackling defensive midfielder, a pacey left wing back, and most importantly employ a manager who knows how to organise a defensive unit.
I wasn't really before tonight, was a bit footballed out but that performance reignited the flame! Proper Barnsley FC fighting spirit the 2nd half, show that next season and the fans will be behind them!
Depends if the board pull their finger out & employ a competent manager & sign some quality over quantity. If it’s more of the same then no.
I am. Not fully, yet, but come August I'll be raring to go. It's what we do - we moan, we analyse, we dissect over a post-mortem of the season past, we have a bit of sun, a bit of a holiday, a bit of cricket ........ then pre-season comes and for whatever reason we are reminded that tedious mediocrity is just round the corner and we love it.
I'm looking forward to it , obviously would like to be playing in a higher league but some good away days next season , few grounds I haven't been to . Rotherham, Mansfield, Wrexham. Donny/crewe/Crawley and hopefully a few good away followings at oakwell
I think expectations need to be set. I believe we have overachieved and done well last two seasons but the playoff situation could mask that we have been in decline - although more successful than most in L1. We no longer have the player assets to cash in on, contracts will expire and we have another year of rebuild. Our recruitment hasn't been great of late. relegation > playoff final > playoff semi > ? It starts with the head coach so the intent will be clear early on.
Reserving judgement on next season until I see who we have in charge and what the squad looks like We are losing half the first team starters and desperately need a new keeper Left wing back Centre half and Striker more if we sell Connell or Phillips A good head coach like Duff ( it wont be him) may well improve Jalo Marsh Shepherd Lopata Lofthouse etc so we dont really miss the departing players, get the head coach wrong and we wont be anywhere near the playoffs At the moment I am expecting mid table next season but could be significantly better or worse once we know what we have to work with in August
Mixed feelings at the mo, got to the stage where i couldnt be arsed, lost a bit of faith, an glad its all over, hopefully with a decent leader and a few decent signings the mo jo will return.
