Conceded 68 league goals, 4 more than us. Mike Williamson looks to have some really positive qualities as a coach, but defensively solidity doesn't appear to be one of them. Obviously I realise there could be a number of factors at play here, but even so it's a concerning stat if he does turn out to be our man.
I’d be looking to sign Lee Gregory on a free if we can afford his wages. it is however absolutely imperative that we build a solid foundation. defences win promotions. See Swfc and Derby. Very solid defences, able to rely on odd bits of quality & set pieces - Derby in particular. The board has performed appallingly since January and they have an opportunity to get things right, starting this morning, get on the phone to Michael Duff. next season will be pretty tough with one of Bolton / Peterborough up there plus Birmingham Rotherham Hudds charlton Blackpool Wigan & possibly Lincoln / Oxford and Wrexham. A lot of nous will be required especially as we are skint
I think Gregory's done, wouldn't want him for the wages it would cost over rated. Especially as you say were skint he would be one to avoid. If we're skint buying players like Gregory would be a massive no. Speculate to accumulate max dean 18 goals this season only 20 bring him in with Cosgrove upfront and have jalo as 3rd striker.
Nous. Something we had in spades last season, but has been severely lacking this, hence the number of stupid goals conceded at key times. 95th minute in the first leg, twice just before half time last night. There's no way that a Michael Duff side does that.
I think that MDG and Lopata still probably have a lot to offer. If you've been watching BFC for as long as I think you have, you'll surely know that in a solid system with a bit of experience and the right players around them, previously shaky defenders can look like completely different players. Way too early to be writing either of them off.
Lopata struggled to get in a side just relegated so I'll reserve judgement. As for mdg I don't think he's strong enough for center half.
I think most of the times Mael has looked better it's been on the right of a three rather than at the centre of it.
MDG certainly looked shaky early on last night when he was easily hustled off the ball for that disallowed goal. He needs to build up his strength and then I can see him being an able partner for Pines next season.
Guys, just because you played a certain position it doesn’t mean you can magically make every player in that position loads better. He also over took over in October so without working my way through MK Dons transfer history I’d imagine he’s stuck with many players who he didn’t sign
Unless the Reds get that defence sorted we are going nowhere. Can't remember seeing a side so vulnerable from corners. But then again I haven't seen MK Dons this year.
And the worry is that we probably have the least nous on our board/staff than any other club in the EFL.
This is absolutely spot on. You can win promotion playing great football, but the chances are, unless your attack is out of this world at the level (Ipswich last year for example) that you need a good defence too. I feel as though a bit of experience/knowhow/steel and even more specifically being good at set pieces in BOTH areas is paramount for a successful season. A lot of work to be done then!
I totally agree of the three central defenders Tuesday night two are playing out of position and it showed. Surely someone senior in the club could see early on in the season we were getting away with things rather than been a solid promotion ready side,I said I thought Collins was a lucky coach well his luck ran out unsurprisingly. I get we signed Pines good signing I think he will turn out to be but he needed a pre season not rushing into the heat of the battle.
