They're championship wages. Doubt a championship club will go in for him. If he lives in the area then maybe that's more important to him.
I can see this "weak board" taking a punt like this. They're desperate now after this season. When you get desperate you try and appease the fans ala Collins' sacking. Wouldn't surprise me if we panicked didn't sign Grant and brought in an over the hill Hourihane when Grant could have been next Danny Blanchflower. Destined for greatness that lad.
Grant the next Danny Blanchflower? **** me you must drink some cracking stuff. He’s had a couple of decent cameos off the bench - I hope we sign him - but for gods sake that’s just plain ridiculous
Local top of league 1 market we'll almost certainly be behind Huddersfield for one. I hear it's not a tricky journey over to Greater Manchester or Lancashire either, as long as you haven't been banned from driving (!), so that probably puts us even further down the list of possibilities.
If we think Lopata & MDG are slow, we'll certainly find out what 'slow' really means in football terms if we sign him! Great defender. If we want to play fast, high line, closing down football, he's not for us. If we want to be more methodical and controlled and not play as high, I think he'd be great in this league
I’d love Roberts back but we’ve got 6 first team players to replace in different positions which will take priority. We also have all of Pines, Earl, De Gevigney, McCarthy, Lopata & Shepherd on the books. I don’t see him as a realistic signing.
We need that type of signing in the defense this summer for sure. Not sure it will be him but we need an experienced head back there 100%.
We're not going to be signing an injury prone 33 year-old centre half that's asking for 15k a week, that's for sure.
If he’s moving back into the area I think it’s a no brainer to give him a 12 month contract. Let him complete his coaching at Oakwell and if he’s stays fit we have a good league 1 level experienced centre half for free. Barnsley lad who has always conducted himself very well with the fans and the community.
Are we thinking of the same player? Marc Roberts was rapid. He out sprinted Lukaku he was that quick when we played Everton. I know he’s aged a few years but I’d imagine he’d still do De Gevigney & McCart for pace if he was 40.
I think that a lot of his 'injuries' this year were down to the fact that if he played a set number of games it would trigger a contract extension. Met him a few times, a really genuine good lad and one of our own.
Earned his cash at brum would be great to have him around as we will have to see how Pines copes with the rigours of league one. Depends what he wants probably get more cash elsewhere but local lad give him club captain and he would be more than capable of playing 20 or so games. In my opinion if we had Robbo we wouldn't have lost the Bolton tie.
Reminds me of the draft in American Football where players have their arm length and wingspan measured. Neckage.
