BREAKING: Sky Sports will show EVERY match on the opening weekend of the 24/25 EFL season, as part of a deal to broadcast more than 1,000 games during the campaign. The traditional 3pm blackout rules will not apply for the first match-day.
I know iFollow isn’t perfect but I’m wary of this Sky deal. At this point it’s mostly because I’m expecting silly kick off times.
I wonder if this surge in Sky coverage could lead to VAR in League 1? Especially now Disney F.C are here.
Always makes me laugh how Sky report any changes to their schedules as 'Breaking News'. It's not like it's a major incident or newsworthy item. However it's neither balanced too. They never report what they lose and any sport not in their schedule never is reported on or at best marginalised - as if it doesn't exist. I guess 'Sky Sports News' is an apt title, news about sky sports and not about sport.
I bet they only have one camera at all the lower league games. I like the multi-position cams when we’re featured, like Friday and last night. Gives you a great insight into incidents on the pitch. The iFollow coverage us way behind that
They have got better in recent times showing sports they don't have on Sky Sports News. Before they got Tennis back they used Amazon Prime clips and do show action from TNT Sports stuff like the Champions League.
Let's say fck 'em and kick off our matches at 2 minutes past 3. I didn't renew my season ticket to have our kick off times changed willy nilly.
Agreed. I’ve just read that each team will be on Sky a minimum of 20 times with games being shown Friday night, Saturday dinner time or Sunday dinner time. Not sure if that’s just the championship or all of the EFL. I’d imagine the majority of games will be Saturday dinner time but it’s still not great.
Have they even consulted with South yorkshire Police for the Barnsley fixtures? I always thought SYP decided our kick off times?
I doubt it, they probably haven’t considered anyone but themselves. We get 23 home games with what 4 or 5 of them being night matches so about 18 Saturday 3PM games. I wonder what that number will look like next season. 10 maybe? Suppose it’s a bit of a “first world problem” but it’s going to be a pain that’s for sure.
Wait for em to stick all these games on "an exciting new channel - subscribe now for only £19.99 a month extra"
I'm at ease with this extra SKY coverage, as I feel less guilty watching it on a dodgy stick than I did ifollow.
Lots of our support travel back for home games. Not going to be good long-term for season ticket sales if they are going to miss half of the games thanks to Sky...
I'm guessing all the same. I follow will still exist for commentary and overseas subscribers. Think of it as you have an official way of watching it now on Sky as apposed to "travelling" most weeks to Uganda or Germany. Overseas official subscribers nothing is changing as far I am aware.
