Just read his piece via X ( no idea how to do links sorry) absolutely spot on for me put in a nutshell we are nowhere near championship ready and club's more focused on buy to sell than buy to build.
I'd say player sales have been key since Conway spaffed all our money away on crocked and disinterested Belgians. For it to be a permanent strategy you'd have to think Neerav, JAQ etc are a pretty niche kind of nerds that get their kicks from pumping £5 million in per season in order to play at player trading. In terms of being Championship ready. Last season's team, if we could have kept it together would be a lot closer than this who clearly aren't.
I've a lot of time for this Leon chap and often read his articles. However, it's getting less and less, because I hate the YP site, and trying to navigate through the article whilst being bombarded with adverts and pics etc
If we don't make our money from player trading, where should we make it from? An alternative is to reduce the wage bill by £5m per annum and aim for League 2 mediocrity.
But apart from that the owners/board are great! Bottom line is we are been run by incompetent idiots. Incompetent because they aren't very good at what they are doing and stupid for basically continuing to throw money at it.
Some of us on here have been saying that for months.. Not trying to score brownie points.. but it was just plainly obvious with this squad.
The irony for me is that if they spent a bit more instead of penny pinching they wouldn't be throwing money away and might actually recoup some.
But a mainstream well respected fairly local journalist puts the boot in its difficult for them at the top to ignore. The board have put alot of money into the club recently and I respect them for that but things need to change, the new ceo and dof need to earn there money not been a great start if the sledgehammer debacle is to believed . We need a long term plan we can't keep having a major rebuild every two years.
Its the money they waste on crap that annoys me that could be put to better use. I believe Cundy, Shaw and Dallas deserved a chance or why be here? Not crap players but crap investments.
We can either build long term infrastructure through the stadium, match-day experience and other revenue streams - but this will take years. Or we can go back to the “penny stocks” method of buying cheap players and hoping we make a profit on one or two which requires no long-term vision or business plan beyond 12-18 months. I bet I know which route we will take.
So because the owners many years in to owning us don't have the ingenuity to make us less dependent on weakening our team, we should just be happy stuck in this dump league.
