Why? We've 16 test matches before the next Ashes to build a fresh, new, quicker bowling attack. Glad that Baz did the right thing and flew over to tell him in person.
My claim to fame, was staying in the same hotel as the England team in Mumbai a few years ago and exchanged good mornings with him in the lift
Nothing lasts forever..He turns 42 in July and has played test cricket since 2003. Will be sorely missed but the time has come to unearth new English bowling talent.
From a sentimental point of view it seems harsh but I think it’s the right thing to do . Teat cricket ? the mind boggles
I think Jimmy's been a fantastic servant for the England test team, perhaps a farewell test at Old Trafford would have been brilliant for him but I also agree that England now need to start building a new bowling unit for the future.
Seems likely that he will bow out after the Old Trafford test against Sri Lanka. Hope he gets 10 wickets. Ben Coad to follow in his footsteps?
He's done I'm afraid, it's not sad, just inevitable, what a legend though a true English cricket icon.
He's announced the first test against West Indies at Lords will be his last one. BBC News - James Anderson: England bowler to retire this summer - BBC Sport https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/articles/c98z9rqd79vo
Shocked at that. I expected him to have our whole six test summer as a farewell tour or at least play Old Trafford. To only be given the first one is really surprising.
Not really. They'll want to weigh up as many options as possible before the Ashes. You could argue they're being sentimental towards Jimmy.
Unfortunately coad bowls dibbly dobbly seamers at 75mph. Great in country cricket with a duke ball but not going to trouble many test batters around the world
hes 30 now so I doubt it, his average is good though and gets them for about 20 a pop, I suspect the term “county seamer” was invented for bowlers like coad however
Wood (34) and Woakes (35) also not getting any younger as well. Hopefully one day Jofra Archer will be fit for test cricket again. Ollie Robinson always there or there abouts but also has fitness issues. Sam Cook of Essex only 236and getting regular wickets as is his county team mate Jamie Porter.
