I don't think they particularly did. I think it's that we appeared to make a conscious decision to switch our play almost entirely to the right hand side of the pitch using O'Keeffe and Cotter as the main attacking option. I don't think it's really any coincidence that kanes (who plays on the left of the three) influence on games dropped off as did caddens and Coles (who played on the left of the front two) while cotters, McAtee and o'keeffes picked up. I do wonder why that was though because it did seem absolutely deliberate that our back three and Connell would pass to the right significantly more often than to the left.
I thought that for a few games we were dominating the ball & Kane & Earl were starting off the majority of our attacks & then Lincoln turned up & decided to give neither of them any time or space on the ball & the majority of sides we played after that copied it.
No I remember the crap ones and the two shocking decisions on managers in the relegation season and if you care to trawl back you'll see I was critical. Just like I was about Hex. Just like I was about Khaled, about Conway. It's all there. However, unlike some, I can acknowledge the good and the bad rather than just crying and finger pointing that everything is s**t because we're not pushing the top ten of the Championship every year.
I find it shocking that we aren't expected to keep anyone with any talent. As soon as there's a whiff of promise they're off to pastures new fgs! Ok, we've always had to sell our best assets at some stage, sometimes frustratingly too soon ala' Gorry and Otulakowski, Doyle, Hirst. But these days we come across as a bring and buy sale!
Like @Django has said, I think it was less of a conscious attempt from us to build from the right than it was for opponents to force us that way. I think it's no coincidence that from around Lincoln onwards Earl, Kane and Cole (yes, he hadn't scored for a while but was still involved in play more effectively) all dropped in performance as they were being targeted more by opponents leading us to move down the right where we didn't seem to do as well.
Do we? We got good prices for everyone who left last summer, though the timing of some of the moves (Kitching in particular) was less than ideal. The players leaving this summer are out of contact. Nothing we can do about that unless we sold them on the cheap in January, while we were in the promotion race.
I honestly don't think that was the case. In the last few games Cadden was stood in acres of space waving his arms above his head begging for the ball and instead we passed to the heavily congested right hand side. That wasn't the opposition forcing us, it was us consciously choosing to do so for some reason.
Cadden was stood free quite often but when Earl or Kane had the ball that option wasn't available very often, we were pushed right. You're then looking at having to play a cross field ball to reach him which has to be near perfect to be effective - over hit it and it goes out for a throw, under hit it and you're allowing the opponent the chance to intercept. Not too mention that in the time it takes for the ball to reach him and be brought under control the opponent is able to start to adjust their defensive shape.
Good luck to him. Another one I feel the fans never really warmed to. Done ok with us, without being anything much more than that for me. Would have to look back and say he never got anywhere near the level I would have expected, for the money we paid for him.
The ones you named were not **** i didn't say they were but the point i am making we have to name the correct coach very quickly before players start coming and going, but what i am saying , with our board, highly unlikely but i do hope i am wrong
But if we wait like last season and players have come and gone before the next one starts, hey-ho look what happens
Yes, because they purposefully choose the 'wrong' coach so they can continue to pump millions into a top 6 league one side for all eternity to come
We have had the right coach 3 times in recent times, Duff, Ismael, Stendal, but they don't back them after first season, i believe this is why they leave. I can see your points but, christ when you have been watching them for 70 plus years, you do get sick of the shenanigans, and do actually come to expect the worst, see how you feel after 70 years
