None. He wasn’t expecting many and was already laughing and preparing for it but zero is harsh!

    Switzerland.

Anyone planning on going should try and sell a kidney now so they have enough cash for the trip.

Except a couple of years ago when we almost won.

Even if it’s true that the rest of Europe hates us, can you blame them? Look at the ******** that got spouted during the Brexit campaigns about how we’re so much better than the rest of Europe.

This Euro music Tv competition used to be so exciting and interesting, before it became far too political.
Remember back in '81, and Bucks Fizz won it, representing England/Gt Britain. :)

It was only 0 points from the public vote. The Juries gave the UK some points so he didn’t end up coming last. The UK was the only country to get 0 points from the public vote, however.

For the public vote, only the 10 most voted for songs in each country are awarded points:

    1st = 12 points, 2nd = 10, 3rd = 8, 4th = 7, 5th = 6, 6th = 5, 7th = 4, 8th = 3, 9th = 2, 10th = 1.

In order to get points in the public vote you have to place in the top 10 of at least one country’s votes. A song could actually be the 11th most voted for song in every country and would still receive 0 public vote points. The maximum number of points a country can get in the public vote is generally 468 (12 x 39) which would mean their song was the most voted for song in each country’s public vote. The highest the UK managed in the public vote tonight was 14th in Ireland and Ukraine.

UK entry was simply objectively absolutely mid. The song didn’t go anywhere, the guys vocals were weedy, the staging was ridiculous and not in a good way. Probably overachieved to get to 18th tbh.

Israel won the public vote with the second highest number ever. Only when Ukraine robbed Sam Ryder of victory in a show of support have a country done better. It shows that despite the protests in Malmo and around Europe, Israel is still popular.

I thought he was pretty poor TBH, but how much does the song to do with it when folk can vote for a song before its even been performed?

What? It's like most things where a noisy minority make themselves heard. Most people see that it's wrong for a five figure attended protest to terrify a 20 year old girl outside the hotel where she needs to stay under police guard in her hotel room. The behaviour of the Israel PM isn't anything to do with Eden Golan. How so called mild mannered people have acted towards her has been a disgrace.

Eurovision used to be a jury vote only. Telephone voting, later joined by sms and app voting, was introduced for all countries in 1998. (Only the ‘big five’ had phone voting prior to that).

    U.K. last won in 1997…

In the years since a lot of the time it has been phone vote only with no jury of music experts/industry folk. Several of those years the U.K. has been plum last - including getting nul points…

Jury vote was reintroduced in 09 and various systems of weighting with them and the phone vote used.

Overall since the introduction of a system where the general public of the various nations in (and around) Europe have had a vote in it, the U.K. has gained very few points and got nowhere close with one notable exception. Two years ago when it is generally accepted that we entered the strongest song.

In 2022 Sam Ryder was judged to have the best song by the judging panels of the 36 participating countries (including the ones they didn’t make the final) - he got the most jury points and was leading before the telephone votes were added - the phone vote was dominated by the Ukraine. He can perhaps count himself unfortunate - and the song was good enough that he did get phone votes too - he came fifth on that - but Ukraine got the full 12 from 28 of the 36 so he had no chance.

Every other year the phone vote gives very little to the U.K; it is therefore hugely unlikely the U.K. can ever win again; and yet we remain one of the top five and give a massive financial contribution to its continuation.

It has too many fans so they never will but I’d just chalk **** on it and leave the rest of them to it; but we’ll keep going - and keep being in the final as we are exempt from the semifinal process.
