2 years today since our new board took control at Barnsley. In 2 years we've got to 2 playoffs that would be considered a success at most league 1 clubs. Lets hope its 3 rd time lucky next season and we can achieve automatic promotion.
The start of a positive thread! Good shout BMW!! I wonder if people on this gorum can actually keep this thread positive with absolutely no moans and groans and whinges. Doubt it somehow@
I think it might be an era thing. Some want overnight success I'm more patient and can see beyond the veil.
Yep fair does, but on your final sentence.. With our better players and loans leaving and no decision on a new head coach yet.. As the ST sales reflect your optimism isn't shared by all.. But we live in hope (not blind faith tho) that after yet another summer of upheaval come next August we'll be ready and fully equipped to go again..
Good point and I agree with you, being a red for life is a rollercoaster, that’s what makes it exciting and keeps us going back for more! The short term success that has been bought at places like Man City will see a lot drop off once PEP goes and the money goes. The genuine long standing City fans will only remain, those in the difficult days at Maine Road. I bet 50% of fans won’t recall what their previous ground was called.
They won’t know who all these old boys are either - the ones they stand and clap for when the name and picture goes because they just died. Colin Bell, Francis Lee….who??
Still littered with those who said mid table championship is what they’d give. Had a chance after COVID but chose not to.
I’ll remember it as a strange season rather than a bad one . Fantastic away record, awful at home. One where we rarely played two good halves together and as often as we offered chances to our subs, they just couldn’t step up. Also strange that we could easily have had a 20+ goal striker, could have had automatics or at least claimed our place in the playoffs with weeks to spare and concentrated on taking some form into the semi final, but at the same time the problems that scuppered our end of season had been evident throughout. All in all, I’d have taken the playoffs pre season and history will show that’s where we ended up. Anything else is the ‘ups and downs’ of a football season.
I’ve seen pretty much everything watching Barnsley. Never seen us win a league. I’d love to see that.
I'd love to see us win the Division 1 title next season. I don't know whether that's a realistic target at this moment in time, but live in hope.
Me too, Mr JLWBL. But I suspect much depends on the actions of the Board. The accountants on here would appear to be telling us that it is ridiculous to expect any real investment in the team, and we should be grateful for our thin gruel! Perhaps more pressingly, I think the three relegated clubs look fairly strong for this tier. And Bolton/Oxford, Peterborough, Blackpool, Lincoln will surely figure. I think Wigan will come into the picture too. So I think it's going to be a harder league to win next season. But still we hope!
