I remember saying after seeing the first couple of games that they needed 5 or 6 new players just to stay up! What do I know?? So proud of the massive progress those lasses have made as the season has unravelled. Well done to all.
It takes them from tier 5 to tier 4 which apparently is a massive step up. Tier 5 is regional, amateur football whereas tier 4 is the first step of the Womens National League, and professional.
Really looking forward to these, one of the few things Ive never seen in 60 odd years of football is a Tarn derby. Unless you count the Briggers v the Recin' Crew
I'm guessing they will still be part time though, even though they might now be getting paid? They would probably earn more doing a paper round than what they will earn as footballers in Tier 4.
I talked to her a few weeks ago, SV - I didn’t realise she was going to be out for that long! Gutted for her
True, but they'll still be earning more than they are right now! And more importantly we'll now be able to attract a better quality of player to the club going forward (with no disrespect intended to our current team, who I'm sure will be given every opportunity to make the step up)
Yeah absolutely. I meant it more that I'm assuming they probably won't become full-time pros. It's an outstanding achievement. Does make me wonder what will come of Barnsley Women's FC though, as I'm guessing the Barnsley FC team will start to attract the better players.
Well I suppose the obvious, and logical, next step would be a merger now they're at the same level. Won't happen though because there's no love lost between the two clubs.
Can't imagine that happening, for the reason you mention. Obviously Barnsley FC don't have a monopoly on women's football teams. I just think the other team will naturally struggle, as the Barnsley FC outfit continues to grow.
Great achievement for the women's team and for the club as a whole. And a very big thankyou to JAQ who seems to have had a big hand in orchestrating it all.
