The Data Informed Director of Football – Phil Giles, Mladen Sormaz, Marisa Ewers, & Ali Tweedale (youtube.com) Talking here about recruitment ... he's talking at around 20min and 30mins.. For what i can gather i think he'd work well with someone like Duff... see what you think..
No way. The manager doesn't have any say. All the players are picked for him, James Cryne chooses the formation and Paul Conway decides which ones play
I put "Mladen Sormaz' in an anagram solver & the best outcome was the 10 letter word .... Melodramas Perhaps it's not a real person & just an AI based in NZ.
Maybe when we have a manager in place, when we signed the majority of the crap in the summer we had no manager. Clearly Pines was a Collins input signing in January.
How is it clear mate? I get the connection but not seen it anywhere. He may have been on data and maybe Collins had a word but wouldn't surprise me if not.
He also said, it’s about putting a framework in place and trusting the experts in each department to make the correct decisions and quoted a physio as an example where he can’t tell a physio how to do there job as he isn’t one.
He also says that he is head of recruitment.. so we definitely know where the buck stops.. The German lady from Villa says data helped create more chances for scoring goals for them Our defending stats data must have got lost down the back of the filing cabinet..
Thought Mladen came across well, and the Brentford chap was very likeable. Would be good to build a bit of a relationship with Brentford given the parallels between the clubs and strategies.
There has to be give and take. The manager has to match the plan as best as possible. But also, the plan has to also be tweaked for the manager - which also helps attract the best. You will very rarely get a manager/club with a perfect alignment, so there has to be flexibility for the right person. We’re not unique in this structure though - many clubs have gone this way over the years.
Pines himself was interviewed on the pitch at half time just after he arrived. He said NC had kept in touch after he played against him in US, and the call from BFC came from Collins. It's always possible we'd have tracked Pines anyway, but Collins was certainly not in the dark!
