Can't say I blame Wolves they had some poor decisions go against them, personally can't see it being scrapped just don't think they'll get enough votes. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c4n1ndlknk1o
They've been shafted no end by VAR this season, more than most. It's incredible referees sitting in a room with a million cameras can still get such simple decisions wrong.
Yep they've had some shockers, just think the PL will find a way to get enough clubs to vote to keep it
Baffling why they didn't get automated offsides, but I believe that was a vote which the clubs rejected aswell for some reason
VAR makes no sense. Firstly a game which we love because its flawed and no player is perfect is being driven to being measured perfectly. To do it we layer up with the same people who dont even meet the standards to officiate todays game and wonder why we create more confusion. Then with all that technology more and more rule ‘interpretation’ guidelines are added which means more inconsistency. just add 2 on field refs. One each half of the pitch and at least work on the principle they will see more and agree more in real time. The authorities belief that VAR is the way forward certainly isnt the same belief as players and fans - the heart of the game.
Wolves stance doesn't make sense though. If they, and other 'smaller' clubs such as Forest, are convinced that VAR are deliberately favouring the bigger clubs, this practice will surely carry on unchecked? Far easier for on field refs to give dodgy decisions without the video ref looking over their shoulder?
They just have to work out what “clear and obvious” means. It’s not VAR that’s the problem, it’s how the rules are applied.
With the offsides, I can't see why they don't implement a version of the goal line tech. AFAIA they have sensors in the posts and receivers on the ball? So it knows when it's crossed the line...why not put those same "materials" onto the shoulders of the kit they wear so it reads which player is beyond another one down to the mm immediately. I might be wrong on how it works and my description isn't the best, but I know what I mean
I think with such sensitive technology offside has to be the whole body when using VAR. Toenail offsides are completely ruining things, and not remotely in the spirit of the game. No way in the world should Coventry's winner in the cup semi have ever been disallowed.
Yes, the issue is when its a decision for the big clubs its either a clear and obvious error that they didn't get a penalty but not clear and obvious when they might have conceded one, every time, that's the problem.
I think the way VAR is implemented over-complicates what should be a free-flowing game. It can theoretically stop proceedings several times a game as events are checked. I've always thought VAR shouldn't be used automatically but rather could be called on by each coach say up to two times a game if the coach thinks a decision is blatantly wrong. Like playing a joker/veto. That way decisions still get looked at if they look contentious by one side but limiting requests for VAR to only two per match would make each team think carefully about playing their 'joker' and wouldn't stop the game too often.
My issue is the referee giving up his interpretation of the rules someone else whose also using their interpretation. Referee's need to say "I'm sorry that isn't clear and obvious it's re-refereeing the game". Which is what it is doing now but wasn't supposed to at its inception. If its going to be kept it has to go back to basics.
We’ve seen lots of decisions VAR and traditional refereeing where penalties weren’t awarded that has you scratching your head thinking that would’ve been a foul anywhere else on the pitch, but because it’s in the box it’s deemed not enough for a penalty. It’s either a foul or it’s not!
I would rather keep VAR which gets 96% of decisions right. The only thing I have against it is the time it takes. 3 max minutes and then the ref decision stands.
Going back to that stick your leg out and win a penalty. Lineker's at it now just as bad as host as he was a player, "he's entitled to go down there".
Yes that’s a load of twaddle, if it’s a foul it’s a foul, might make players be a bit more honest. Same goes for blocking and shirt pulling at set pieces
If they vote to keep it, I personally don’t ever want to hear another manager complain about it again. I actually want to see them go further. Scrap VAR and go back to the original offside rule. If you’re off, you’re off. Scrap ‘phases’ and scrap delayed flagging.
