Not sure if this is a joke or sarcasm mate, but if not I'd assume because the club are taking pelters about not announcing one. Especially when other clubs are announcing theirs ala Duff at Hudds.
I'm most excited about Conor returning TBH. We've been crying out for an experienced player in the group. He may not play week in, week out, but his professionalism should rub off on our young squad & his set pieces could be invaluable. Stendel will be popular with the fan base. It's going to be a tough league, so we do need to give it some time.
Doug, in the article at the top of the thread... Former Barnsley captain Hourihane may also return. The Irishman, 33, is out of contract at promoted Derby County this summer. He has been coaching on a part-time basis in Barnsley’s academy this season as he looks to launch a coaching career. If he were to rejoin the Reds – who he captained to two Wembley wins in 2016 before moving to Aston Villa in January 2017 – he would also have some form of coaching role as well as being a senior player.
I agree. I'm the same. If that bit is true then that is the bit that is most exciting for me. We need leaders and winners in that dressing room to maintain standards and help develop the younger lads.
Didn't realise Conor had already been coaching here. Thats weird considering we were direct rivals with Derby.
I am purely guessing here but I would assume it is possibly a requirement for doing coaching badges maybe that you cannot do it at the club you are playing for. That or maybe there was not the opportunity for him to do it at Derby so he asked us as it is not that far from Derby.
From memory, a lot of football contracts run up to 1st June, which covers a full season and any additional requirements such as cups and play offs. Also, a lot of players/staff go on holiday straight after the season. So in all fairness, quite a few things could be agreed, but await the finishing of another contract and/or return from holiday to do a photo shoot etc. Not for one minute do I think the club are sat there twindling their thumbs - that’s not how it works. And whilst frustrating, the club don’t need to really update us on it - it’s obvious nothing is agreed, otherwise they’d say. What’s an update going to say!?
'They have put out to tender for an architect and surveyor to oversee an upgrade of the ground which would include general repairs, with a focus on health and safety, plus safe standing, improved food and beverage kiosks as well as a fanzone' Lick of paint and a new burger?
That's a fair point. I just thought there'd be a ruling that you can't do it at a club in the same division - obviously not. Good sign though if he's looking to come back that he's already done some stuff here.
For me if we sign Hourihane and he's fit he plays every game. Age is just a number in your thirties. Too much is made of it.
Certainly makes it a lot more viable that he'd come back. I saw someone on Facebook talking about him doing some coaching here before and just thought it was nonsense. Didn't actually realize he had been working part time here. Hopefully this is the time we get him back.
Was Stendel the one who used to defend on the half way line practically, then teams would just play over the top and we'd end up running back towards our own goal?
