“I want to reassure fans that we are working hard to bring in some new faces who can help us achieve our goals next season and beyond."

Depending who comes in will give us clarity on what the goals are for next season. Based on the squad that is left, we need a few key players to come in and not just ones to develop.

Bit blunt about the 4 lads who played combined over 500 games for us. I expected them to say if they were offered anything.

Very surprised we haven’t taken the option on Grant and at least offered Williams and Cadden contracts.

We can't sign him yet as the transfer window hasn't opened; perhaps it'll happen when it does open? I'd like to see him return anyway

Stick of coil, satsuma and a knob of butter and they were thankful for that. Money doesn't grow on trees you know. Don't get rich giving it away :D

No real surprises in there I don’t think.

Out of the our of contract players, I would’ve liked Williams to stay. Not too fussed about the rest but they’ve all had their good moments for us.

Said it before and I’ll say it again, a huge summer is coming up for us. We need to bring in quite a few players who are ready to slot straight in, not be good in a couple of years.

We have a clause to make it permanent.

So does Sunderland with Styles despite will being returned back to us.

Says in the earlier article from Doug that we are waiting for a coach to come in and make that decision. I guess we can still buy him at any point this summer.

Probably decided to keep it short and sweet due to the fact that fans, me included sometimes, will pick fault where they can find it. If they'd said that they'd offered contracts to Kane, Williams, Cadden and Cole, there would've been fans slating them saying they must've only offered them minimum wage or whatever. They've done right, we got the retained list, end of.

Chronicle said we will decide when we get a new head coach in, so there is probably date we have to take it up by which will give the new man a chance to decide. It would be a bad move to bring him in now without knowing if the new guy will want him.

I really thought we'd signed him on a loan with a view to a contract at the end of the season. Maybe he'll be back?

it says players over 24 who are in contract or who have been offered a new contract. Neither one is on that list.

The deal was in place though. I thought it was us who had the option on him. I'd like to know the rationale behind him not signing. Really disappointed with that one.

It doesn't mean we're not trying to sign him. His contractual status, as far as the retained list goes, is that he returns to his parent club at the expiry of the loan.

The only new bit of information I see in there is Styles on the retained list clarifies the contractual situation with Sunderland (i.e. it was a loan with an option to buy). Logically this suggests Sunderland haven't taken the option, but I guess a similar logic could be applied to the one I've used above for Grant.

If he is our player to sell once again, then it might be a good thing, as he'll be in the shop window over the summer playing for Hungary at the Euros. He might attract a few suitors that way, and he'll certainly be aware of the opportunity to do so.
