Personally I think needing 7 or 8 players amongst the players we’ve got, when some of them aren’t good enough is major surgery, especially with a new manager with new ideas to gel them in. I just hope we don’t get off to a disastrous start results wise, otherwise it’s going to be a long season.
We have a core/spine of a team though. You can bed 7 or 8 in quite easily because you won't be making those seven changes all at once. They'll be complimenting what you already have.
So even before any incoming transfers this summer and before a ball is kicked.. we have a potential first team squard of 34 players.. madness
Yeah they do that just don't explain why four key first teamers with over 500 games between them have been released. They didn't say it was their choice or too far apart in talks or players made it clear they wanted to play at a higher level etc.
Suprised we have offered a contract to Wolfe and even Marsh to some extent. Big season for Marsh next season.
It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out why they've been released. They're looking for higher wages plus signing on fee elsewhere. That was always going to be the case if we didn't go up. Further info about how far we were apart on retaining them isn't necessary and, no doubt, divisive.
Some of the comments I read about Williams remind me of bile I used to hear in the Ponty about another fantastic local lad who played at right back for us, Nicky Eaden. Most of the people who slagged Eaden off had the footballing knowledge of my nan. And of course, as soon as Eaden had left us, the geniuses started reminiscing about how his replacements weren't fit to lace his boots. Fully expect similar next season unless Lofthouse turns out to be as good as we've heard. Because I think Jordan Williams is going to be very hard to replace.
The club will be hopeful he as a good Euro's.. Here's to our phone ringing off the hook this summer.. Or maybe not..
I’d agree with that. I think we will miss Williams and his pace. I just wish we hadn’t have messed central defence up this season so we could’ve seen him in his proper position.
Quality over quantity is what we need - IMO. I'd like to see 4 or 5 quality players, rather than 9 or 10 gambles. We should have enough space on the wage bill with what's been released. Fingers crossed.
Decent no nonsense statement showing some respect to the players leaving, no surprises really good luck to them, it's a short career we'd all do the same in prioritising our families and financial security so no hard feelings from me, time for some new heroes
