Definitely one of the main reasons we made 6th ,did drop off towards the end of the season but more than enough credit in the bank for me.
It's a good point you make re. having a better defence. We conceded so many chances to the opposition this season he was bound to balls a few of them up eventually - he went above and beyond with his saves in the first half of the season, the number of chances we continued to concede in the second half meant the law of average caught up and he inevitably dropped some clangers. On that basis and provided our defence improves, I'd have him back.
Absolutely. Blamed for a few not his fault. Yes a couple of hiccups. Who doesn't. One of the main reasons we finished in the play offs.
Think there’s better out there. Bit of a liability since January. For a keeper his size he doesn’t command his six yard box enough, especially at corners. A no from me.
I'll add, yes he may have dropped off form wise like everyone did, but he was a massive reason our results went the way they did up to Xmas. He was outstanding up to then. And made saves that won us points without a doubt.
If he can learn how to come out of the box to clear through balls that are very much 'his', then yes.
A yes from me. Pretty sure his net points gained / lost for us would be a solid positive over the season. With no transfer fee to pay, it would seem foolish not to make the attempt to sign him. Ultimately, it will boil down to how much of a pay cut he's potentially looking at from his Boro contract to a BFC one. Presumably any difference has been covered by Boro this season. He may ultimately find a 'better' offer elsewhere, as Isted did last season.
If his wages are L1 level then yes. Not good enough to be spending one of our top wages on though, we'd get better, for less. I'd prefer Davies to come back.
Can see a few being after him. Wouldn’t surprise me him signing for one of the clubs who have come down.
Yes, I would. Was without question overperforming first half of season, was never going to keep that up, but the drop off was mental later on in the season. Some of the saves he made we premier league standard at minimum, he was far above the second keeper in the league in terms of incredible saves made via his xg prevention. I think with a decent coach and hopefully a better coached defence he'd find some form again. It would also mean we could potentially save some money for other positions, whether that'd be a fee or better wages for another player. Who knows.
I'd love us to sign him, he's shown us how good he can be and like any player we sign there's still room for more improvement.
Yes. We have to remember we're a League One team and as such good players for us are going to have off days and weaknesses in their game - otherwise they'd be playing in a higher division. I don't think you'll find many better than him at this level.
