Whenever you hear opposition fans on about our season in the top division, they only recall us getting battered. We had 4/5 batterings, the rest we competed well. Won 4 more games than Luton, conceded less and finished with 9 more points. But everyone will be going on about how well Luton did...

Most of those batterings aren’t really shocking scorelines any more. Many weeks have a 5-0 or a 6-0 now (see Aston Villa today).

We were unlucky that the relegation threatened teams that year were Everton and Spurs, teams with infinitely more resources to call upon. We might have been luckier with a Stoke or a West Brom floundering.

Different game now in fairness. A lot of Luton's praise is because their entire squad cost wouldn't buy you Jack Grealish's right thigh.

But great to see how many points we got in comparison. Frustrating that we weren't far off and had we clicked earlier, history would've been different.

Wow imagine 27 points would be keeping you safe how times have changed

Agree. Plus we had the Gary Willard effect that finished us off.

Just wish Wilson had signed a couple of premier league experienced centre halfs and I reckon we could have been alright.

Leeds United at home when 2 up and losing 3-2 was damaging.

The 3 red cards against Liverpool killed us.

I think it's relevant, we barely spent a few million but were playing against strikers that cost 3/4 times more than our entire squad

Yeah but your not allowed to say that on here.
Because apparently, you must love Luton and feel sorry for their relegation, etc!.

Or a Swindon Town, a Derby County or a Sheffield United.

At one stage of the season, we won 3 games in a row which then put us on 31 points after 29 games.

9 games left but then came the Liverpool game.
A couple of late defeats conceding after 80 mins and the must win Spurs home game when we were on top until Vega got sent off

Lack of draws cost us in the end late goals away at Newcastle, Leeds, Blackburn, Sheff weds and Liverpool at home combined with Leeds at home lost from 2 nil up, that's 8 points that just slipped from our grasp

Thought we were very unlucky, September and October did us really especially at home
