Just tells us he's been released and that Derby are able to sign him. Wouldn't surprise me if he's on their radar but it just looks like typical speculation without much substance at this point.
I don't think Kane would be a bad signing for Derby. With Houirhane's contract up & Max Bird leaving, I think they could do a lot worse than to sign Kane. No fee meaning he can increase his wage too, but also means Derby can spend more elsewhere.
Fair enough seeing as his family are all up there as far as I'm aware. Got absolutely no problem with Cadden at all. He signed for two years and played the vast majority of league games in that time. Never hid even when things weren't going for him on the field and came across as a thoroughly likeable bloke in interviews. Gave us some great moments, especially in his first season. Certainly doesn't owe us anything, provided good value for what we paid, and can leave with his head held high. If he goes back to Scotland permanently, I'm sure he'll be a great signing for a Premier League team up there.
If they were still in League 1 I'd agree with you. Just think his lack of pace will be massively exposed in the Championship. In order to get away with that, your reading of the game and vision have to be on the Jan Molby level.
I honestly think given the way Derby play he will fit in. Further forward he is much more impactful than when he's in the deeper role, i.e when Connell hasn't played. He can make a wicked pass, he just didn't do it enough this season for us. I think that's a combination of the football we played, his confidence being low and general quality of his teammates. I've been critical of Herbie, especially when he is playing deep, for dwindling on the ball, sideways passing etc - but we've seen him when he's been our best player, for about a month when we were on form, he was the main part of it. Last season he had plenty of fantastic games. Given the right coaching I think he'd a good addition to Derby. Personally, I think his peak is lower championship level, so it depends on how 'ambitious' Derby will be. But I think if they want to stabilise in the championship, a free Herbie Kane will be a good signing because they'd still make a profit on him a year on, regardless of his performances even.
You might be right, and I hope he goes on to do well wherever he goes. I certainly don't wish him any ill will. Like others on here I think he's a good player, just one who's represented quite poor value. If we'd picked him up for £50k from Gateshead, I'm pretty sure people would have judged him far less critically. The large fee we paid for him is hardly Herbie's fault.
