A 3 year gig at Oakwell? It's been a while since anyone lasted that long. Usual terms and conditions apply although, with the sacking of a Head Coach with the team in a play-off place, the ante might have been upped. Do well and we won't stand in your way if you want to leave after a year, otherwise you'll get the chop.
Every single manager since around 2015 have taken the job under the same criteria. Most are still involved in the game. Some went on to higher status clubs. They know what they are taking on. But the main thing is pound notes and security. TBH I dont think any of em are top notch. Only Hecky really reached dizzy heights. Not saying I'm fully in favour of the criteria on the whole. But with some players it has worked. Others not. That applies to most if not all clubs outside the greed league and sometimes they dont get it right. Losing millions on their investments. Sugar daddies can do that. We are not in that position. Some much bigger clubs than us have spent years in the lower leagues. Go up and fail. Huddersfield the latest to spiral downwards. Portsmouth 12 yrs below Championship level.
On a hiding to nothing with the ridiculous philosophy were trying implement, most managers/head coaches at this level will accept to a degree that they won't directly be involved in recruitment of players but combine that with being force fed a style of play then its no wonder we are struggling. Over complicating football at this level beyond belief.
Words evade me right now tbh. A philosophy set out by folk who know next to nothing/**** all about football.
Isn't Adam Oxley a radio Sheffield lackey? I would take his comments with a pinch of salt. Radio Sheffield sports presenters love sh#t stirring when it comes to Barnsley FC
Thing is it doesn't have to be this way. Recruit the best players you can with the budget you have, recruit 2 or 3 older heads around the place, appoint a good head coach and let him crack on. We've got an incredible academy set up right under our noses where talent would provide us with a platform to be sustainable selling players on, but how many players show signs of promise to never develop to the next level.
I wish I could find a way to answer to the post I'm trying to respond to: how do I do it ? Because pressing "respond" doesn't seem to create a response to the thread I'm reading. I know I'm a "saddo" but my "excuse" is senility
Signed a 4th decent free transfer today as well Rotherham. Might be worth a few quid on them going straight back up.
They look proactive dont they? Busy and focused. Might backfire for them but at the moment I'd be positive if I was a Rotherham fan
Proactive and not standing still. Getting their business done early so those that sign can relax until pre season knowing they have a contract. Evans has made excellent use of the free transfer market. It shows it is possible to put a team together for little outlay.
