Not sure why Rotherham would have a bigger budget than us. They'll be in the same position we were in when we were relegated but with lower gates. They'll be without the Championship money and with players who got them relegated still on the books. Don't think they've got any young stars on their books that they could sell either.
As an aside I think we need to be tougher in recruitment and retention. If we can see a young player isn't going to make it. Get rid. Likewise no speculative punts on the likes of Dallas and Shaw. It eats up funds that could be used on one decent signing.
You may be right. Dunno. They've already made 5 very astute looking signings though, and a manager that will get them running through walls for him.
Way too early to be saying who the contenders will be. Wrexhams current squad is miles off top 6 contention imo but they of course have budget but we don't know yet who they'll bring in.
Rotherham’s signings so far would indicate a budget a fair bit higher than ours. JCH, Raggett, Rafferty and James will all be on contracts above what we’d offer.
Im on this page. I like what im hearing from Clarke right now but it's not him that concerns me. Do we have a budget and backing for a Top 6 push with the outgoings we have and no revenue to build. My thinking is, if we have a bit of patience then top 10 this season, build a squad. Season after hope we can strengthen further rather than dismantle, go for an automatic top 2 and have the foundation for the championship.
The reality is if we finish outside top 6, we will be discussing our next new manager, this time next year.
One step back to make two forwards? As said above we're in a rebuilding phase and these things take time. It may, probably will, be a 2 or 3 season project and patience will be key on all sides, including board and fans. Bigger clubs than us have had longish spells in this league - but they do tend to get out in the end.
Because the league next season will be much stronger. We missed a golden opportunity last season when it was the weakest it’s been in a long while.
This is the issue though - they won't be afford patience by the fans if we finish outside the top 6. Especially somewhere like 10th.
Not sure why. They're all on the downward slope of their careers. At their peak maybe 3 years ago. Maybe Rotherham are allowed to gamble a bit in their first season seen as they're all freebies.
Can't assume anything about any team at the moment. Far too soon. New squads, new managers, boards that invest and boards that dont. Too many variables. At best wait until at least the regular season actually starts and then make an educated guess. Guess is all it is.
They'll struggle with finding many more without sacrificing the wage offer, replacing 16 means they need a lot new incomings and all will have to fall into SCMP rules.
Rotherham have also brought Steve Evans back again, a proper football manager (not coach!), and that surely will be a good decision. Whether not many fans like him or not lol.
