Wife's AA renewal a few weeks ago was quoting her about 300 quid, possibly more, so I did a comparison with RAC ...... and got it for £52. Same if not better cover. Rip off Britain .... nah, doesn't exist !
Trouble is most of these types of companies. Get away with it cos lots just automatically renew. And you have to cancel yourselves. I think it was the Halifax I got a good deal via a comparison site on an insurance policy. Renewal came up around 30/40 %. Went on comparison site again. About 5% more. Had to go through the process with an advisor to cancel the automatic renewal. Who then passed me on to a new customer advisor to get the comparison price. Bonkers. But it's how they operate to get more out of you.
I think it was national breakdown I was once with. Possibly green flag. On price and cover they couldn't be beaten at the time. Broke down once. And one of the big boys so to speak rolled up.
It's actually illegal to charge an existing customer more than the standard advertised price for a new customer for identical service now.
My AA car insurance last year was £290 this year they wanted £480. I questioned that and the guy dropped it to £380. I told him to shove it. Hopefully I can find something on line a bit more realistic.
Make sure you turn off the option to cover yourself as a passenger in someone else's car. Made a huge difference to my wife's renewal price.
Unlikely. Insurance is expensive these days. £380 is cheap to be honest. I'd be more than happy with that figure myself.
It's not that simple An example https://www.which.co.uk/policy-and-...versus-new-customers-which-finds-atL8s9k5bLmz
AA Breakdown screwed me...I'd been with them for years...so long that I never looked at the price, although I wasn't happy as on my only breakdown I'd been left nearly 8 hours before someone turned up... then one year the card statement came and I'd gone from £80 odd quid to a near £200 renewal. Due to being sloppy I was out of the 14 day cooling off period...I had them on the phone and they told me that I'd now got top Membership and could drive anywhere in Europe with no extra charge...I pointed out I hadn't even got a bloody passport. In the end they knocked £50 off...I cancelled at the end of the period and have never been back.
What, the cover for you as a passenger in someone else's car, or the fact that it bumps up the price? Yes, to both.
I didn't realise renewal was optional. I'll have to have a think about that - I'm not sure I'm getting good value for money any more. Perhaps I'll shop around a bit.
I dont know if you are thinking car insurance instead of breakdown cover Helen. I'm guessing DSL is talking about the latter in this instance. If the person who's car it is, doesn't have it. You can use your breakdown policy if travelling in it.
