Does anyone have current membership figures for the Labour Party and Momentum?

Lazy question. Wiki reveals that as of March 2024 Labour has 366,604 members. The last available figure for Momentum seems to be as of 2021, when the estimate was a rather loose 20-30,000. That is to say, Momentum comprises less than 10% of the Labour membership.

Times Radio have just read a copy of a letter from the Permanent Secretary to the Treasury dated 3 June 2024, indicating that the figures quoted for the £2,000 claim last night should not be relied upon, and added in further costings which the Treasury had not produced. So Sunak's entire pitch last night was based upon a proven lie. I'll be interested to see how much further air time this factual story gains through the rest of today. It deserves to be shouted from the rooftops. At the very least, I hope Sir Keir will use it to shame Sunak during the second televised debate, and to suggest that nothing further he says should be relied upon.

Most of the posts below are correct that Momentum is supportive of the left of the Labour Party but it’s also fair to point out that they were supportive of Starmer for a long time & it wasn’t until fairly recently that they’ve been critical of the party

On BBC News this morning that the costings were done but used the current Govt policies only.

Which would be happening anyway, as the Tories have proved.

Whatever policy is in place be it immigration or anything else, it has to be managed properly, we have seen over the last 14 years that personal and family/friends interests comes first and foremost. Stick your head in the sand all you want but that is all we have seen from this lousy lot and perhaps you think things will change IF they get back in power. On the contrary, they will get worse for most of us. I suppose you’ll just throw the defeated Tory supporter’s line that ‘They’re all the same’. Well whatever you think of the current Labour Party ( and I have my criticisms, believe me) they are not and no doubt never will be as corrupt, lying, bent as the Tories.

Didn't Starmer describe it as "absolute garbage"? I think that could easily be deemed to be an answer.

I can't be bothered to look through 4 years worth of their timeline, but I'd be interested to see if you can find 3 pro-Starmer tweets from Momentum from the period that he's been Labour leader.

It might be tricky, given that they were calling for a motion of no-confidence in him in July 2020, which was about 3 months into his leadership.

This is pretty much typical of what Momentum are within today's Labour Party, a diminishing faction with their only 'positive' activity being to support the pro-Corbyn Socialist Campaign Group of MP's, such as Richard Burgon, Apsana Begum and Zarah Sultana.

You defended starter when he refused to back a ceasefire in gaza. That war Blair took us into was wrong no doubt people like you support Labour like a football team so will defend it.
