I’d prefer Bowen if we was chasing the game, Grealish if wanting to see the game out. Can’t comment on other lad
Dunk won't see any game time I wouldn't think. Doesn't really matter who is the 4th/5th CB. Bowen doesn't affect Grealish - Gordon and Eze are that side. Bowen will be behind Saka and Palmer on the right. Oh and it's coming home.
Grealish is the lad with the potential, he can excite and turn matches quickly. But for various reasons, he doesn't get to show it nearly enough. Bowen meanwhile is a solid and dependable worker, who's had a great season at West Ham. Personally if I had to choose, Id have gone (only just)... for Grealish!.
People have called for players to be picked on form & he’s done that. People can argue about who’s the better players but even Grealish & Maddison can’t argue that they’re in better form than the other wide men / attacking midfielders. I’m a bit surprised he’s taken both Bowen & Toney. I thought Bowen had a better chance if Toney didn’t go as he can also play up top which Grealish can’t.
Iceland take the lead against us at Wembley, so hopefully we'll do better next time when we play Farmfoods.
Take a look at Walker's lack of effort in tracking back for the goal. If he sprinted back like he should it'd still be 0-0
Its a very pedestrian pace right now isn't it, and it's proving to be frustrating at half time. But again I will ask, what if anything can we really learn and what should we expect from pre tournament friendlies like these. But some fans were actually booing just then, at half time!!.
Gets caught too far forward all the time. There's a reason most opposition goals come down that side.
The goal goes past a keeper who has had his confidence and form completely destroyed by his club manager.
Dunk not seeing game time, fair enough, but are we hoping being around the squad and big games will stand him in good stead for the future? Will it ph00k, he'll be pushing 40 by the time the WC comes around. His inclusion makes zero sense. Having Tomori or Branthwaite around the squad does, as the experience can only benefit them in 2-4 years.
This is surely Kyle Walker's last tournament, and I think he's mostly done well for us, in fairness. I think we might miss Maguire's partnership with Stones at CB, as they are always a threat up front at attacking set pieces.
Was very disappointed Branthwaite wasn't selected, I really like him. Would also agree on Tomori, had that standout season 21/22 season where he was excellent, hasn't refound that form but still a great talent.
World Cup is in 2 years mate, Dunk will be 34. That said I wouldn't have left him in the final squad. I'd have took Branthwaite. He won't be at Everton for much longer, on to bigger and better things that lad. Left footed too, all other CBs in squad are right footed.
I wouldn’t be worrying about Branthwaite. He wouldn’t have played anyway. You’ve got to remember who he’s playing for & the style of play. People used to call for Tarkowski & Keane to get England call ups when Dyche managed them. He makes centre backs look good because he plays a defensive style & protects them. It’s a whole different ball game dominating possession & defending much higher up the pitch with less protection.
This is a bit worrying to be honest, that they could have scored a second. And this 2nd half hasn't been much of an improvement from us.
Frustrating that Trent comes on as Gordon comes off. Two really well suited players. Trippier’s often switching play to Gordon for Newcastle & Trent could’ve done the same where as Walker doesn’t have that in his locker.
Pedestrian and slow, too many passing backwards and looks very disjointed. can only hope Southgate has a different plan in 10 days
