But I’m on the Lerwick to Aberdeen ferry. Just passing Fair isle. Thankfully seas relatively calm. I have experienced worse especially in January. Could be bed quite soon. 7am arrival in Aberdeen.
Fair Isle, top of my bucket list. Hopefully they’ll have rebuilt the observatory accommodation by next summer. Off to Orkney again this summer. Britain gets better the further North you go.
My wife once had a possible job in Lerwick, it came to nothing. All I remember was the frighteningly horrific cost of the journey from Aberdeen, What is the price now?
The £119 is for a cabin. So only £22.75 if you were prepared to rough it for the 14 hours. I have done this in the past but getting too old now for it.
I never realised, until this year, that Lerwick was so far north of the Orkneys… can’t be that far from Norway !
I used to catch that ferry monthly when i worked in Shetland on the gas plant up near Brae. Is a really wild experience if the seas are rough, loved walking in to the canteen and seeing everything nailed down in case of choppy weather and sometimes they didn't even open it!
Yes I know it would have been much cheaper and warmer to spend a week in Benidorm. But unfortunately my grand daughter lives in Shetland.
I wouldn't go to Benidorm if you paid for my flight.... She needs to move to a different island, possibly Sardinia
Just been watching YouTubers ‘ Bald and Bankrupt’ & ‘Backpacker Ben’ recent vids on that very trip. Not very comfy those pods apparently
Yes I watched that but I got a 4 berth cabin. Shower and tea making facilities. The pods are just rows of reclining seats and like you say not very comfortable.
