Not sure about that. They've been in the Bundesliga in 13 of the last 16 seasons, and have average attendances just shy of 50k.
It's Köln actually, and the Ö's and Ä's are often written as OE and AE in non-umlaut countries. So I'd say that Koeln is more correct than just Koln.
This is a fantastic chance for Herr Struber. FC Köln haven't had much success in recent years, but they're still regular visitors in the 1.Bundesliga. Perhaps Red Bull could have paid him bigger wages, but for Struber's personal career this is a great move.
That's a decent sized job. I visited quite a few years ago now and happened upon a set of Cologne fans about to travel to an away game. Several hundred of them all decked out in team colours in the heart of the city singing songs as general passers by applauded them to send them on their way. Not sure if other clubs do that in Germany, but it seemed a really nice touch.
Random fact of the day. I've danced with Woodcock's ex wife - looks and dresses a little like Anne Diamond and not particularly a good dancer but a nice lady nonetheless. Their son in law is Mike Brown (ex England Rugby full back).
I wish he'd gone to Borussia Munchengladbach Fc. So we could have started the song... gimme a B, gimme an O, gimme an R... etc, etc!.
I worked in Frankfurt one weekend and from the office window heard the sound of bagpipes. A load of Eintracht fans gathered outside a whiskey shop and when they were in their hundreds marched behind the piper across the bridge towards the new town. I assume to a game but I don't remember if home or away. Quite some atmosphere
