So overall a very poor showing from the Scots. We all knew this would be a hard game. The Germans would be one of the favorites before the tournament started but we still don't know how good they are after that. Always difficult but just zero application over the 90 mins. Not sure they had one attempt on goal, not one in 90 odd mins is very disappointing, at any level.
I agree we were the better side, but it was still a disjointed performance. Hammill, Winnall, Hourihane, Fletcher etc on song would have destroyed them.
Scotland have only got 3 players that are genuine Premier league quality, it was a truly shocking night for them, but, the truth is they were just outclassed by superior quality players.
Think that's harsh on the first ,Robbo got no where near the opposition for the cross ,and the next defender stood off the striker. He did well to get an hand on it but I wouldn't focus the blame on the keeper for the first. I missed the 5th I was asleep
I'm at a loss to think of a more spineless, inept performance by any side at a major tournament. Reckon that at least six sides in this tournament would have had a similar result.
They were, but their defensive shape and general lack of organisation were absolutely inexcusable. Germany were very good, but as another poster says, most of the top sides would have had a field day last night.
Agreed. Can you imagine what an on-song Portugal, England or France would have done to them? Genuinely think it would have been even worse.
Nail on head. International managers generally aren't good enough to organise a cohesive press in the limited time they have with the team, so don't bother. Germany were incredibly impressive. Reminded me of Italy under Mancini.
Yea think Scotland went 5 at the back but organisation and application just not there. Germany's passing, thinking and tactics (not to mention far superior players) were another level and as we saw the visitors struggled knowing who to pick up and how to press properly.
I'd be cautious about putting England in that group until we've seen what happens on Sunday night. Scotland were poor but I'm not gloating just yet.
On our day we could easily have done the same. The problem for England will be the defence so teams who carry a threat will get success against us.
Yea...Englands defence is the Achilles heel....wouldn't be surprised at a draw tbh, with the old addage of don't lose your first game ....many teams set up to not lose rather than go all out gor a win.
I'm not gloating at all. I don't think there's anything outlandish about saying that a team containing Kane, Bellingham, Foden and Saka could possibly run up double figures against a defence like Scotland's. They were easily as bad as Iran were in the last World Cup.
