The 1982 World Cup and Euro 2012. Instead we slate Ron Greenwood for being too establishment and hammer Roy Hodgson for the 2014 World Cup and defeat to Iceland at Euro 2016. @Merde Tete makes reference to the Russia game in Euro 2016. We should have been out of site. We beat Russia and we don't play Iceland etc. I know hindsight a wonderful thing but I think sometimes we judge a good tournament by how far we go and rightly so. I've rambled on about attainment beating effort on numerous occasions but two of my favourite tournaments watching England were Euro 2000 and 2012.
1982 is one of my favourite tournaments. We were a good side that just lacked the odd goal that would have seen us get to the semis at least. And that kit, the finest football kit ever produced.
Italia 90 all the way for me but probably the dullest final along with USA 94 great tournaments poo poo finals
It is SD's thread. Will.this do Jud. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzfo4txaQJA&ved=2ahUKEwioopPh2t-GAxUcQkEAHTrkAMcQwqsBegQIDxAG&usg=AOvVaw3cNvJGDWTopX2Mvg5PuUr4 Forget how to post the video direct.
Think God had a lot to answer for mate . I know your not into Cricket Ian. But Scotland more than just showed up.
I thought 98 was a decent one too. That game against Argentina is one of the most memorable England games, had everything. That disallowed goal and Argentina breaking away and nearly scoring while our players were still celebrating, wow, the extreme emotions of football right there in a minute.
So I just heard mate. X11Barnsley was keen to let me know. I feel so proud We need some good news atm.
82 world cup where we never lost a game but still got eliminated due to the bizarre process to progress further. My most memorable was Italia 90.
Italia '90 is an over rated tournament for me, especially due to how bad the Final was. And how that appalling Argentinian team got all the way to the Final. As for '82, we had a talented experienced squad then, and we went out after only drawing our two group gemes, both 0-0. A lot was made as well about Keegan not being fit, but he was still desperate to play.
I must admit, I thought about that game again tonight, against that appalling Russia team in Euro '16. But it's a win tonight isn't it, at least. And if we had dominated the match and been unlucky to only draw, what would we be thinking ehh ?.
Why don't people talk about footy tournament songs ehh lol. Just look at this England Euro '88 shocker, on the Bbc Wogan show. Bobby Robson looked really embarrassed didn't he, and I think most of them did to be honest (apart from Tony Adams, who seemed to be loving it)!!.
Italia 90 probably only had two absolutely classic World Cup matches - Cameroon v England and England v Germany. The group stages were unnecessarily cagey, considering how many 3rd placed teams went through, but what it lacked in classic games, it made up for with so many iconic moments. Gazza's tears and Lineker's gestures David Platt's winner against Belgium. David O'Leary's winning penalty v Romania. Higuita losing possession to Roger Milla. Milla's corner flag dance. Scillaci's crazy eyes every time he scored. Voeller and Rijkard's spitting match. And the greatest World Cup moment ever - Benjamin Massing's "tackle" to stop Cannigia.
