Once seen as the powerhouse of Europe for most things……..gets on train this morning from Duselldorf to Frankfurt and train was delayed cos the staff were late couldn’t make it up, train currently sat now Got sat with same blokes from Villa and a German guy who’s a main man at a Bank, mixed bag but all good banter……… These Villa fans had a spare Spain ticket for tonight so this German guy who works for this Spanish bank has messaged his colleagues to see who wants it and they’ve transferee it for €50……..a like stuff like this, it’s a shame media don’t pick up on stuff like this instead of wanting the English to fail
I was stood on the concourse at Düsseldorf station last Monday looking at the departure board and I would say 70% of trains were delayed. The German rail network isn’t very efficient and I say that from experience. I come over each year for Bundesliga and trains running late is the norm.
All the Germans I met at the World Cup in 2006 were brilliant with us. A very welcoming bunch. Loved the country.
Better than train "delayed due to cr" EDIT: Reference relating to another thread about Northern Trains
I was in hamburg a couple of years ago on business and had to catch 3 trains to get to the airport for my flight back home. The guy I was seeing assured me that this wasn't the Uk...the trains would get me there bang on time....they absolutely did too...and the people were lovely and wanting to converse in English rather than my apology for German! Unfortunately when I arrived the airport the bloody plane was delayed!! Anyway the German people were really nice...a credit to their country.
I always found the Germans very hospitable during my three years there with the RAF (1990-93), which was amazing considering the fact that we were an occupying force in their country. I’ve been back a few times since and still enjoy visiting. The south is just fantastic with mountains and clean lakes to swim in and wonderful towns and cities. The north is a bit too flat but still worth visiting. I wish I was over there now instead of roasting in Spain
Those of us who have visited Germany in recent years know how true this is. Hopefully the link works. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckvgkgq9yeqo
