The Canada style euthanasia bill.. that he wants to put front and center to the house if elected.. Not seen much discussion on here about that.. maybe a little tricky for the old lefties his one.. Turkey's and Christmas spring to mind here.. But don't worry too much about going to see the doctor in future.. and definitely the hospital.. it's not just the oldens and disabled there after.. they have a big net. People in there twentys who go to the doctor's too often with mental health issues.. are also been offered a way out.. (do your homework its all public knowledge) But at least one poster on here should be for it.. kirkyboy.. he thinks that humans are the problem and theres way too many of us anyway.. But the big flaw I have with the eugenics argument is... It's always someone else and there family that are surplus to requirements.. They never have enough faith in there conviction that they lead by example do they.. So be careful when putting your cross on the ballot paper.. it may have far more reaching implications than just the feeling of smugness in victory.. As you where..
https://christianconcern.com/comment/responding-to-the-labour-manifesto/ “The Labour manifesto says nothing about abortion or euthanasia” as you were.
According to my Grandparents my mum was "put to sleep" after suffering in agony with no hope of respite back in the 1960s. That's all I know but if it's what she wanted then thankyou to the doctor who helped her out. As you f****ing were.
I know Starmer personally supports the individual being able to determine their own end of life solution. It’s not in the manifesto or Labour policy. If it was ever put forward I’m sure it would on a free non partisan basis. Plenty of reasons to criticise Labour but this isn’t one of them
I have sat in tears whilst kindly watching my dogs be put to sleep to allow them to pass peacefully without suffering. I’ve also had to watch my dad be ravaged by terminal illness and live five cruel years as a shell and no quality of life. That we can end the suffering of our four legged family members but not human ones is horrendous. I was only a kid, early to mid teens, when my dad’s MS progressed to the point he had little to no quality of life. He didn’t want that. He’d been very vocal about it in the years leading to it. (He had primary progressive ms, not relapsing remitting. He just got progressively worse over the years and never improved). If I’d have been a bit older I honestly feel I’d have helped him and risked a prison sentence for doing so. So if the Labour Party were advocating a euthanasia bill (they aren’t), but if they were, it’d make me even more likely to give them my X. So, as you ******* were yourself, you ignorant pillock.
I have strong opinions on euthanasia,my belief is quality of life is priceless and life is precious. If you have seen a family member with Alzheimer’s,dementia and Parkinsons suffering tell me is Euthanasia so wrong? We don’t let our pets suffer we do it out of kindness and love.
Breaking news.....Sopwith extracts response with pile of garbage post....what's next, Starmer to send over 65's to Rawanda..Sunak furious his idea's been nicked......
!00% mate, I'm an old lefty 74 and counting I have said for years now there should be some system in place to help people with debilitating health problems to end it all. There should be strict checks and balances in any system and it should be NHS led. I have been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, I have gone through all the treatments and at the moment I am in a bloody good place, but if I get to a place where I am nothing more than a vegetable then off I want to go. I have seen too many people end up in a bad place through Cancer, dementia, alzheimers, Parkinson's and NMD etc. As you say I wouldn't put my dog through any sort of agony and I wouldn't want to see any of my family go through it either. A living will would be a good start.
Watched both my father in law and mother in law, proud, independent people become ravaged by cancer, reduced to relying on family members to feed them and help them to the toilet (and at times change their nappies in effect). They didn't want that. They would have preferred to go with dignity and without suffering. Watched my grandad die to multiple systems slowly failing in his body, robbing him of his ability to live life the way he wanted. He was all too aware of what was happening and how it would progress. He would have preferred to have the option to pass at a time and in a way of his choosing rather than in a hospital bed when machines could no longer force him to live on. Watched my grandma robbed of her life and memories by dementia, thinking her own daughter was her mother, crying to return home to Newcastle where she hadn't lived since behind a teen, unable to remember family members, unable to feed, clothe or toilet for herself. Euthanasia may not be the case in every scenario. It should not be available on a whim. But it needs to be debated openly and sooner rather than later. As you were...
Some very sincere posts on this thread and lots of genuine heartfelt reasons for a euthanasia bill. Its obvious why some people think that that may be way forward. I'm probably on balance in favour of it myself. However, there are some big dangers with the potential abuse of it. Not all family members are as caring as people who have posted on this thread. There are some nasty folk out there who would, for personal gain or other reasons not think twice about getting rid of granddad. What about family pressure on very poorly people to make the choice? What if someone wishes to be euthanized but then changes their mind but doesn't get it written down? Pressure on people to write their wills in a certain way? Pressure from doctors?.....its not as clear cut as it appears and would have to be extremely well regulated and not open to any kind of abuse which in itself would be difficult.
Whilst not commenting on the full post. Jeez. Turkeys voting for xmas. Look in the mirror Sopwith. But I looked up the Canadian Bill. And it has considered mental health. But I don't think it will ever get off the ground. It has been put back at least twice. Mainly because the doctors who agree with euthanasia in it's present state, think it's a step too far. More investigation is taking place b4 they look at it again in 2027. I can't imagine what mental condition would qualify. Where the person would be of sound mind to sign the document. Suicide is on the increase due to many mental problems and that is a massive concern. But Euthanasia would never be on the table for those in that state of mind. Dementia and Alzheimer's patients would never imo be able to get medical professionals to agree to sanction it.
