Eddery is about my limit although Lester and Carson were riding along with Swinburn when I sat on my Grandads knee watching channel 4 racing.
I was there too, in the Grandstand, headed down to near the finish line for the race. Fine horse. Don't remember over much of the day though, as is the way with a lads trip to the races!!
I think only ante-post big race punters will ever have made money on him. He went off at 7/4 for his debut. He was odds on for his other thirteen races, sometimes as short as 1/20! The greatest, and unlikely ever to be bettered in my lifetime.
9 and a half lengths. Hope she has a career as good as Frankel. It's a joy to watch when you see an horse go unbeaten.
I seem to have found more reasons for not backing horses this Ascot than the other way round, Winker. Still, they say avoiding a loser is like backing an even money winner! For the record I won 3 of the 9 races I played in for a very modest profit on stakes! Greatly enjoyed the meeting though. Roll on next year!
Before his debut the birds were tweeting. I backed him at 25s - for the Derby! It made sense, first race over a mile on soft. Then when he stayed on to beat Nathaniel I was well impressed. Turned out he was rather too fast for 12 furlongs!
Such is the way of ante-post punting, mate! I had Inspiral at 25/1 for the 1,000 Guineas. Gosden couldn't get her ready in time, so I had to grit my teeth when she went on to win multiple Group Ones later! Still, all part of the eternal puzzle.
I decided to take 3’s for Bedtime Story in 1,000 Guineas after todays win but I fully appreciate there is a lot that can happen in next 10 months. I did however totally forget about Fairy Godmother ……
