That's absolute bòllocks for two reasons:

1. Labour have pledged only to increase taxes that will affect the top earners.

2. Millions of those who aren't top earners also study, have jobs and work bloody hard

So yes, it is a fundamentally easy choice unless you're a selfish, gullible, immigrant-hating berk.

 

What they say and what the will do is 2 different stories, starmer has already backtracked on the £15 ph minimum wage he said he would fetch in if he got in power

You move in strange circles. I go to town 2/3 times a week and turn my hearing aids on to full volume. And believe it or not I've never heard that once. I must get out more. Or change the batteries.

Those who say Labour have already won .... .not necessarily. Look at 2019. If the Tories didn't stand, it's safe to assume many of their voters would vote have voted Brexit party. So they'd have won.

This is why it's so scary, and must vote Labout rather than the million and two Socialist parties or the Greens (The majority of whose policies should be implemented by the main parties anyway), and LibDebs.

Do those Brexit Party votes automatically translate over to Reform? I don't think so. Now brexit has been implemented and has been seen as the costly failure it is, I think that most of those voters return to their natural home, which is voting Labour. Some disenchanted Labour voters or Corbyn supporters may stray to the Greens, but I doubt it will be significant.

 

I hope you're right but I'm not convinced.

 

It's interesting looking back at Barnsley Central. In 2010 the Tories were represented by Piers Tempest. I assume this is the film producer (The Bank Of Dave)? He may also be brother of Troy, a submarine commander.

And in 2011, after Mr Illsley's departure, the Lib Dems were represented by Dominic Carman, son of the legendary QC George Carman. Never knew we were so interesting!

 

Let's face it a doctor who's studied years worked hard all to get his qualifications got a load of debt wouldn't be voting Labour, but a down and out is likely to.

 

Do you know any doctors?

I know three personally (plus my gp’s but I’d not speak to them about this!) - not necessarily close friends but people in the so called social circle if you like. Have a drink with them, chat regularly.

They work in nhs hospitals. I can assure you that their years of study and debt don’t lead them to want to vote Conservative. The conditions they work in, what they have to see and deal with daily, ensures that they will never ever do so. They also would never vote for Farage who’d decimate the nhs even worse than the tories have. They have historically and as far as I know will only ever vote Labour - they aren’t realistically expecting Starmer to reform the nhs in one term and don’t expect miracles - but something has to change. People of their academic ability could clearly have chosen a path with much less time and expense studying - and get a final career on much higher salaries, especially for the first ten years or so. Dr’s aren’t paid well from the outset. Some never are.

They did it because they wanted to be doctors - can’t speak for all but these three, in very different fields, different hospitals (well, two) and different ages all do and it did it because they wanted to save lives, make people better, ‘make a difference’ if you accept the cliche.

I imagine a lot of their colleagues and peers agree with them.

And I’d be amazed if many frontline nhs staff disagreed.

 

What a load of crap, and it's pretty telling that you can't imagine anyone voting based on anything other than individual financial interest.

 

A doctor would be alot worse off financially taxed more on their salaries and then on the work they are able to do which isn't through the nhs. They may aswell move countries and take their trade elsewhere. Not to mention if they've worked hard and want to leave their family something in inheritance.

 

I have a lot of doctors in my close circle of friends, and the idea of any of them voting Tory at the next election is beyond absurd.

 

Well I imagine a landslide all the nhs workers, work shy, working class and high earners will vote Labour.

 

Doctors aren't solely focused on their own financial situation - they aren't that selfish. The line of work they're in shows this for starters.

I'm friends with around a dozen people who work in local hospitals (Rotherham, Northern G etc) and they all say that they'll be voting Labour - they are more focused on their current working conditions and the horrendous destruction of the NHS by the criminals currently in government than having an extra £50 in their pocket each month.
