Not giving people a chance at this rate. Announced 1st of June last year. Nearly July when the players go back and we’ve got a testimonial booked in.
In ideal world that’s correct but it’s not an ideal world especially involving transfers. Let’s say for example our no.1 most important signing has agreed in principal to come but his existing club says not until we have a replacement, do we pull the plug on the deal and sign only someone who is available now or wait 2 weeks and get the best option?
Personally I do, a good start to the season is essential and the best way is to get a full pre season in with all the players together. Sell now or not at all. Buy now and get the new players integrated quickly. If things are not quite right make changes in January. Just my opinion of course.
Life’s opinions, no right or wrong. Personally I’d rather wait 2 weeks for Messi than take Carlton Palmer now
100% agree. The majority of clubs will currently still be waiting for their targets, because of the reason you listed.
Problem for me here is we have said for that the past 2-3 seasons that it’s caused issues with us at the start of the season not having players in for a full preseason. You can’t claim to want to change how we operate and then keep doing the same thing and complaining later.
I have said for years we should hold other events but not to the detriment of the football team, which i am saying it looks like it has, i don't know if this is true ,but it justs looks to have
But why do you think it's to the detriment to the team. More money into the football club will surely benefit us. I dont know how the lease actually works. But I assume to those who own the lease will benefit in either investment into the club or reduce losses.
No thats not what im saying i am saying boxing seems to be the main issue or it did till it was sold out
By detriment i mean taking the focus off the football team. Which it shouldn't. The football still should come first
I really don’t think that a one off boxing match is taking precedent over the stuff that’s going off in the background with regards to the running of the football club. Those tasked with identity/scouting players will be doing that/will have done that. We’ve already released a statement saying we’ve made bids for players so that proves we are doing stuff in the background. We can’t hold them hostage and force them to sign for us. There’s still over a week until we are due back for pre-season and even then, I would imagine it would be very much fitness based stuff rather than tactics from Clarke. Yes, in an ideal world, we’d have 6, 7 or 8 signings all through the door prior to July first but it’s not always that simple. I would much rather us take that little bit of extra time to get it right, than rush in and sign the wrong player just for the sake of signing someone.
I've no doubt Cole and Kane are in negotiation with clubs. They will imo be signed as soon as their contracts run out with us. Some (including them) may hang on to see if a better deal comes up. But that could be a risky game. As clubs will want players through the door asap. The only ones that imo can hang fire are those willing to go out on loan as they'll get paid regardless.
We can do more than one thing at once. It's not just one bloke at Oakwell in the offices. There are teams of people with different responsibilities. I don't see any cross-over between recruitment and the boxing event (which is being run by Boxxer). There were articles in the Chronicle from our director of football as far back as Friday. I'm sure there will be more announcements imminently, but to suggest that boxing has become a distraction just seems like nonsense to me.
It was only a week or so we were getting various posts on here about commercial deals (sponsorship)being done by the commercial team.
The boxing is really irrelevant to what's happening with the football mate. There's no evidence to suggest BFC is turning into a boxing club. They can multi-task I'm sure. If the club got painters and decorators in and there were loads of vans and scaffolding would we be saying the club seem more concerned with cosmetic appearance than football? They're looking at players, talking to agents and they're trying to get the right players in. If they fail they fail, but as I mentioned before try and be patient even if its for a few more weeks. The boxing is just a side-show and doesn't mean BFC aren't trying to find footballers. We MIGHT end up with some good players in simply because the club is taking its time. We might not but we might. Be patient. Criticise later if they co.ck it up.
