Not a political post unless people make it so (or it morphs into one about telling the truth) but what circumstances is it ok?
The classic 'does my bum look big in this' would be a good start. I wouldn't lie. I'd be diplomatic but wouldn't lie.

Not really a good place to start. Any response could be seen purely as a opinion and therefore difficult to call out as untrue.

Where to start. I hate lying. But there are times when a white lie is better than the truth imo. Especially if children are involved.
Something as daft as does father xmas exist. We all know he does. My mam when asked where babies come from. Said "Bought from the hospital." I dont think I was in the cheap section. :)
Or hurting someone's feelings if unnecessary.

I lie to my 3 year old daughter most days, usually to help her make better decisions such as not playing with doors because that’s how her grandad lost 2 fingers when he was a little boy (it was a work accident really).

I told my young kids that the alarm sensors in the lounge was Santa monitoring their behaviour.
And they grew up believing me that the Ice Cream van bells meant they had sold out.

Everyone lies. A lot depends on why you tell a lie imo.

It would be OK on this site to say that you're not voting Reform.

I strongly believed until very recently that no lie is acceptable and if you have to tell a difficult truth then you should do so but kindly. Generally, the most difficult ‘white lie’ ones could be avoided by the person not asking for your opinion or you just not voluntarily offering one.

I now think there are exceptions where no one is harmed and the person being lied to feels happier, but only if it only involves a difference in your true opinion (e.g. saying you like someone’s clothing as long as they don’t actually look daft in it, it’s just not to your taste), not when it’s a lie about actual facts.

There’s lies and then there’s deception.

    1
The owd lass next door asks me to get some milk and gives me £1. I get to the shop and its £1.10. I take it back and tell her that she gave me enough money (I make up the difference.)

    I’ve lied to her.

The owd lass next door asks me to get some milk and gives me £1. I get to the shop and its 90p. I take it back and tell her that she gave me enough money (I pocket 10p)

I’ve deceived her for my own gain.

The Tories don't lie. They deceive for their own gain.

They'd send their aid to do it but only if they stopped off at the bookies on their way back.

This is quite pathetic. In your example you've obviously lied both times and it's ridiculous to introduce your own political persuasion into it.
