Plenty of managers have tried it in the past and got nowhere...the big snag is that the good players around them at club level are not necessarily English.
Good effort pal, unfortunately you are miles behind the times, you should read up pal. Unfortunately the reasons you are wrong are too long to respond to, you are clearly too short minded to understand the group of players we have, you are the reason we will not win anything as a nation or a club. Stop embarrassing yourself. You're clearly not educated enough to understand modern football, almost like you want Collins in 9 month's after he should have gone, unfortunately people like you have no idea. Everything that's wrong with football, embodies you. Go home and educate yourself, Dino! Keep us all in the dark ages, shame on you
Oh sorry, I should add the fact that we should be happy our over lords Collins and Southgate have got us here. Almost like it's not hard to get the best team in the world to beat.. Slovenia, oh wait it's ez. The fact we haven't won all of these games says everything you need to know, not only about Southgate but the people who support him
Apologies to all sensible, adult posters on here, I'm sure you will understand why continuing this conversation seems rather pointless.
Just a quick note that prior to around the midway point of this season, Giuseppe often played Foden out on the left. In fact, he scored a hat trick from that position in the 6-3 win against Man Utd in the 2022/23 season.
To be fair, completely different styles though mate. The amount of possession and closing down they keep/do is non-comparable to England. Foden is better centrally, his best games this season have been centrally, and when he's out left he drifts inside because De Bruyne goes deeper or drifts out wide whilst whoever is playing right wing pushes along side Haaland. Just my opinion, but Fodens talents are wasted there for England when we don't play that system
Oh I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, I'm just saying that its not the biggest alien concept to him. I'd say that the biggest difference when playing this system is that City always had a left footed left back, which allowed Foden to drift inside. We did have 73% possession last night though, so I'm not sure the amount of the ball made a difference.
Agree with this, I only saw second 1/2 and thought England were trying but just couldn’t break the defensive banks down of a team who were well organised and disciplined in their tactics/structure as a result there was next to no space to exploit. In the knockouts teams won’t defend in the same manner. Must admit as well watching I thought can’t remember a team over acting in terms to fouls like they did.
This is what I hate about modern football. "No space to exploit". In my day players didn't need space to exploit, they didn't need 5 acres of room to play the perfect pass to the striker stood alone waiting for the ball. They got the football and they bloody well ran with it themselves. I remember the days when it wasn't frowned upon to see a defender in front of you and actually take the ball past him
Nice spin only conceding one. That's not the issue. Against that opposition I'd expect no more. We only scored 2 in 3 games is more how I'd look at it. I'd expect much more.
I’d glad someone else has said it. I thought I was losing the plot when I keep reading people saying he’s no good on the left when I was convinced I’ve watched him play well loads of times on the left
I agree, but the reality is in our day teams also didn’t plan to play with 10 behind the ball, they tried to score. Even when we did beat players last night they were met with no gaps to pass the ball. When teams play that way the only way gaps open up is if the team makes a mistake alternatively you need a piece of absolute magic.
This. We consistently fail to disorganise the opposition. No one breaks the lines, runs by strikers are uninspired, no interchange of players. We seem to pass sideways, look up to see if one of the opposition has fallen asleep or tripped over and, if they haven't, pass it sideways again. Teams must find us a dream to play against because we do nothing to pull them out of shape.
