Some Macedonian football magazine, proud of having one of their own playing in The Premier League, interviewed him, and asked what he missed most about being back home. He replied ‘the beautiful women’. Which, via an interpreter, our beloved Sun/ Scum newspaper decided to interpret, and headline as ‘all Barnsley women are ugly’!!!!
Poor young lad got crucified for saying nothing wrong.

 

Yeah I agree Jules, I always thought that was appalling journalism against him. And Hristov was never really allowed to forget it.

 

He was delighted that he is still remembered. The guys were Maribor fans which is where we signed him from and he returned to.

 

Glad he’s doing ok and any criticism levelled at him was never meant to be personal. It’s just frustrating that we spent all that new money on players who MIGHT have been good rather than searching for a couple more experienced campaigners like Hendrie and Thompson, only a bit younger. We might have had more than a chance.
